I'll never be satisfied until I have a pad that beats out this Indian Billionaire sumbitch!

I take it he's a a real assh*le who enjoys firing his architects every few floors... Hard to believe an abomination like that comes from the same culture that produced the Taj Mahal...

Oh - to answer the OP's question: At current money market rates, it'll take $18Mio to sustain $175K/yr until I'm 85, presuming 2% inflation.

Keep in mind, if you're not employed, you're going to have a lot of free time. That means you're going to need more money to do all the things you're going to want to do.

That actually looks very unstable, and being in India, I'd definitely be weary of it.

Probably does not even have a bathroom. :awe: Indian people don't believe in private bathrooms. They just do it wherever.

For me probably about a million, perhaps less. Take about 100k, put it in an easily accessible high interest savings account and live off that. Put the rest in some kind of guaranteed investment. Even if the interest is not THAT great, with that much money it will build fairly fast. I'd also move to a cottage area to get lower property taxes, and I've always liked nature, so it would be awesome to actually live in it all the time.

The hardest thing would be no internet, but with this kind of money I could always work out a deal with any telco that has fiber running near the area. Need a place to pop a repeater site? Give me 10/10 uncapped fiber internet, and I'll let you plop it on my property and even provide you with power.

I'd of course make sure my property is big enough so I can put up wind turbines and solar panels. The more stuff I can sustain on my own, the less bills there are to pay, so I could make this money last and grow. Could also buy a couple properties in the city to rent out.

In fact I'd even say I could probably quit with 500k, if I'm smart about it. Though in all reality if I did win money think I'd keep my job anyway as it at least gets me out of the house. Then again, so would owning a cottage in nature.

Probably about $10 million. $5 million would only be about $100k per year in 2013 dollars for the rest of my life expectancy.

I'd probably take the deal for $5M. That would allow me to be comfortable, and I'd be happier without my soul-sucking job.

$10M would be a lot more fun, though. I'd need lots of toys to keep from being bored to death.

I just need 300K to pay off my mortgage. I need about $1K a month to live comfortably without a mortgage. So 1 million.

Probably $40mm. I would like to start several businesses as part of my overall lifestyle, even if we're talking about them only ever paying for themselves and not earning me any income. Of that I probably would only ever use about $5mm personally.

If I can never invest it, never earn interest on it, and never have any other income ever again I would need at least 10 million. That would give me $200,000/yr over the next 50 years.

I'd probably need somewhere around $25 Million, after taxes.

There are many, many things I'd like to do in my life and a lot of those would take significant investments. Since I'd be unable to recuperate any expenditures, and I'll have a lot of free time, I have to make sure I can afford these things up front. Ideally I'd like to be able to afford to fly first class and travel the world, stay in nice hotels, and party hard. I'd like to come home to my dream home, and take my dream car out for a spin, then go to my workshop and work on my projects/hobbies.

Until then, the prospect of making it big and working for my dreams will keep me occupied.

let's assume a yearly interest rate of 0.1%....i'd want the interest from my assets to be ~$100k, so 10^5*10^3 = 100,000,000.

so, $100 million.

edit:  on the thread tags 😀

$5 million be plenty for me, although $10 million would be better so I could be more generous with friends and family.

Of course the amount people find acceptable is going to vary quite a bit simply because of the age ranges here.

$20M not counting for inflation.

Edit: Might need to be more. If I can't work ever again, then I'm going to need ways to occupy my time, which means I'll live a very expensive life trying to find stuff to fill my time.

I think "can't do anything with it" is a retarded condition.

If we're just talking about a suitcase of money, and I can't convert it into some other form of wealth, just spend it on consumables... a few hundred million.

If I could do what I want with it, probably 2-3 million would get me to walk from work and not "work" again.

I'd need about $3,200 / mo to live life comfortably.
That's $38,400 a year. I'm 28 and might live up to 57 more years. That works out at $2,188,800.

If you include the ~60% we pay in taxes in Sweden, you'd need to add to that, obviously.
