12 kids to fly to Japan and stay there for about a month (3-4 weeks)? I'm thinking of staying around Tokyo in preferably a hostel or some kind of place like that.

How much would you guys estimate?

Thanks!

a crapload
tickets are like $1500 each = $18,000

lodging for a month for 12 people, WAG = $12,000 (probably a lot more)

so a minimum of $30,000 not counting food and fun

figure $50,000 and you'll be ok, or not, isn't Tokyo even more expensive than the rest of japan? maybe double that if you don't want to eat crap and sleep in the street, i dunno

Go ask a travel agent. Seriously - tell them what you're planning, and just ask them the ballpark figure. Then go home and look up the airline fares + basic needs = needless to say, airline fares fluctuate pretty dramatically depending on the time of year, so you should look it up accordingly.

You can probably hook up a group rate with lodging and airfare if you have that many people going.

Honestly, other than the airfare. if you really play it smart, you travel and stay ANYWHERE if you really dont mind giving up some stuff. It just depends on what you want to do and see and how comfortable you want to be in the mean time.

Itd be A LOT cheaper to go to Europe. Try $500 a ticket or LESS (sometimes as low as 270) to most major airports in Europe. Then $15-20 a night in hostels all across Europe. If you wanna travel by train, $450 each for an unrestricted 15day long train pass. Covers pretty much every western european country from spain and italy up to Norway and Sweden.

Lowest would be ~ 11,500 for roundtrip tickets, hostels/train pass for 15 days
Highest would be ~15000 for the same.
After that just budget in food.

Anyone know if there are hostels in Japan? I know I stayed in something near Tokyo similar to a Hostel back in 7th grade when I went. Hopefully I can find the person who put together this trip and ask her how much it cost.

Thanks,

`K

Share accommodation at youth hostel realistically is at least $50 per day & minimal food budget is another $50 per day. I recommend grabbing a copy of 2003/2004 Lonely Planet from your local book store and add at least 50% on top of their bugged for accommodation.

I personally would budget with at least $200 per day for accommodation/entertainment/gifts. It always nice to have extra cash to spend on gifts the last few days before you head home instead of having to cut your travel short because you run out of money.

Tickets are not $1500 each. I can get from Indianapolis or Boston to M'sia for about $700-900 depending on the season. If you want to get tickets like that don't go through online sites (Orbitz, Travelocity).

Call up a travel agent. I've used Silva Travel and Nova Travel before and they give decent prices.
