According to this thread, the X1800 ones actually need it unlike the older cards.

Okay, my bad. I have CCC installed but never use it. I just go into Windows Display properties if I need to make any changes.

So basically you'd pay $200 for X1800XT that outperforms a $450 7800GTX, $300 7800GT and 2x faster than $200 6800GS.

I suppose for the other cards you'd only pay $175, $150 and $100 respectively then?

Id buy that for a dollar.

cerching (till opens)

In the UK i would consider it for £200-250 (around $380- 440)

The last time i upgraded because i desperately wanted to play farcry but there seems nothing i really want to play at the moment that stresses my system. (fear and COD2 really piss my system off (unplayable) but i dont play them(probably because they are near unplayable with eyecandy) )
This card should be compared to the 256 GTX because it will give people an indicator of what to expect from the cheaper 256XT (if it actually comes at all. I would be hardpressed to get anything from this gen from the roumered appearance of the R580, but this is another matter not to be discussed here i think.

What the fvck do I need to explain????? I have a BFG 6800NU that I bouht for just over 250 shipped back about 10months ago...It plays everything I play and I was able to convert it into a quadro card...So to me the XT offers nothing more that I need and probably less in what I want...so it needs to be around 270 or less for me to even look at that power hog/ heater....

pLus it is my opnion and I surely do not need to explain anything to anyone...

LMAO. You usally have insightful information to give, so I was just curious to know why you posted your original post since I'm debating about my upgrade. No need to act like a kid.

Bottom line I think no video card should be over 300 bucks period.....I wouldn't buy any of Nvidias offerings until they hit same range...i know what Zebo is talking about so that is whty I agreed with him..We have similar view on this....I would likely tend to side for Nvidia cause they are better CAD cards in general and easier to mod...

Well, the X1800XT doesn't perform as well as the GTX 512, so that's enough reason not to buy the X1800XT at its current market price. Another reason is that the card is at the high-end of the X18 line, so that means it's overclocked and at higher temps than it's worth. The X1800XT has few features, fewer pipes which would make it worth more than $200.

The GTX at $400 would be a better buy for me. But I don't have that kind of money anyways.

Personally, I'd consider it if it was around $250-300. More then that, and I'd rather go nVidia, because ATi has some compatibility issues with games I play, and ATi's main advantage is in AA performance - and I never use AA, because I think it just plain looks bad.

Before I got my x800xl, I was using a Nvidia MX4000 to drive my dual monitors at high-res and was fine with that but I got stupid and bought a few games and got the x800xl. I've been happy with it but after seeing some games w/ maxed settings, it just looks so much better than me w/ my medium settings.

I'd by it if the price was similar to it's competitor with a + or - 2.5% price difference... if I was looking for a card in such a price range.

$500 would be pretty reasonable compared to the 256 GTX, but it seems that the X1800 cards require CCC, which I've heard a lot of negative things about.

What is CCC?

Catalyst Control Center

I don't believe they require it, but i do have to say that it's ghay as hell.
It takes like 10 seconds just to frickin' load on my system.

Hate to say, but it feels like bloatware.

You don't have to install it if you don't want to.

Yes you DO! Notice ATi says "Radeon X1K series products not supported " with the lessor options like CP or driver alone on this page https://support.ati.com/ics/support/......tID=894&task=knowledge&folderID=27

As far as why I only think card is worth $276 - bloated crappy drivers combined with I can sometimes get a GTX which OC's better, runs cooler and quieter with the drives I like for as low as $350 I think it's a much better deal when you find one on sale. Add in you can get a GT for $276, later add another and be really fast I think nV presents better option at even $276. But it's a tough call.. I'd just have to decide if I could get used to the fact of my ram use going from 62MB on boot to over 300!!!

You don't have to install CCC for Radeon X1K. The driver is still invoked fine, you just don't get the extra options, but everybody already knew that.
