Well I believe drug use will disqualify him from future events and companies are very sensitive to stuff like this.

That bong hit will cost him millions of dollars, stupid. Then again he let himself get taken with pics of stripper too. Talk about being handed the keys to the city and then throwing them away...

A young man in America hit a bong? He had to quit all that shit a long time before heading to the Olympics, his dedication to his sport should be noted. I see this as no worse than him getting photographed with some beers.
 
I think its time the anti-drug crusaders give it a rest. AFAIK cannabis is not a performance enhancing drug, and enforcing a ban on it does nothing to level the playing field.

Apparently cannabis is linked with great athletes though, Edwin Moses, Carl Lewis, the entire NBA, and now Michael Phelps.

And Michael Phelps is already a multi-millionaire, so I don't think it will hurt him much.

London tabloids are notorious at least as factually accurate as the worst of our supermarket tabliods. Here's the original story, and they're less than absolutely declarative about what they think he did.

I'll wait for more definitive reports before I accept this as true. We'll know sooner or later. I don't know if cannibis falls under the IOC's rules against performance enhancing drugs.
 
Who cares? They'd probably pay him to do a beer commercial, and alcohol is far more harmful than cannabis.

From the looks of it, I'm saying he was hittin' a fat bowl of the time-stoppin' chronic. But then again, speaking as ex-tobacco smoker, I think it would be worse if it was a tobacco product in that bong.

Cannabis is about as harmful to humans as cat nip is to cats.
