How much water to rice?

I always just add water until it's level with the rice. Not above it. Then just mix it around a bit and cover it with a plate or something so it actually kind of steams. My rice always comes out good.

To answer the OP, I've always cooked rice in enough water to cover it and then drained it in a colander when I was ready to serve. Seems to work well.

I'm doing it the old fashion way. using my finger to measure it. Maybe that's why my rice always come out salty

wow, 2 : 1 makes for some gooey rice. We do about 2.25:2 water to rice. Turns out the way we like it. If you prefer "firmer" rice go for 1:1:)

I was going to post, then realized 2 things:
1) depends on the rice (in other words, look on the package)
2) all the asians on the board would point and laugh at the white girl telling them how to cook rice

my mom taught me to use the finger. it does works

Same here, Sometimes I add a little bit of olive oil to keep it from sticking to the pot, and to give it a little flavor boost.
