I did my first "good" run/jog in about 3 years. I am about 5'9 and weight about 215 so I am obviously overweight. I did a run and for obvious reasons couldn't run that long. Only jogged for about a half hour. How much water should I be drinking? I don't want to gain all that water weight back that I just loss cus I sweated a LOT but I read some old threads on here that if you don't drink enough water your muscles will be sore. Should I not worry about how much water I drink after I run? I searched and didn't see any threads about this before. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

In all my time in athletics, the water thing has never been a problem. Drink until you're not thirsty.

Then again, I've wrestled and kickboxed and weight lifted; my running's been for that, not an end in itself. Maybe things are different for sprinters or marathoners.

Drink as much as you'd like. You DO want to replace all the water you just sweat out, but you want to do it in a gradual way. Drink a fair amount of water through the day and afterwards and you won't have anything to worry about.

Drink until your piss is clear. That's the standard rule for staying hydrated in almost all circumstances.

That said, it's really hard to go overboard. Water shouldn't be a problem unless you're ingesting toxic amounts (ie: 3 gallons/hour), at which point water weight will be the least of your concerns.

When losing weight, you should be trying to lose fat, NOT water weight. Losing water weight will always be just a temporary thing and being dehydrated is not healthy. Drink as much water as you need and do not worry about it at all from a weight loss perspective.

You are trying to lose fat, not water weight, so why are you concerned with overindulging? Stay well hydrated, drink plenty ad libitum (to comfort level).

It has been but I think it's overboard. I need, as do most, to drink vast quantities for it to be clear and there's really no reason we need it clear anyway.

yeah if you're getting into jogging you'll want to be hydrated all the time... so just drink all day. It's definitely very healthy to keep drinking water... like others said water weight is not an issue.

As everyone else above me, drink as much to quench your thirst. Drinking too much water is something that isn't going to effect your overall weight.

You should never be afraid to drink water. Drink as much as you want, until your urine is clear.

Remember, water contains no calories and you will need to be hydrated in order to continue running.

No one should ever cut their water intake if they're on any kind of physical training.

You need lots of it, and in fact, the more water you drink, the less water you retain in the long term, so you'll look less bloated while keeping things more healthy. How cool is that?
