yeah i was a little shocked that mine didnt either.. i even rechecked the manual to make sure i wasnt missing a latch or something to release them. they dont fold.

1992 Mustang notch - trunk is basically useless. I would guess maybe 4-5 cu. ft. Seats don't fold down.
1988 Trans Am - seats fold down, lots of space. I could fit a complete Yamaha Razz moped inside with the hatch completely shut and the seats folded down.
