Time off in the bank means squat if you're too busy to use it

This. We have the option to either get overtime pay in the form of money or annual leave. I always take the money, though it helps that we get 16 days of leave at the start of every year.

I have just over 8 weeks of vacation time saved, and 3 weeks of sick. I've already used the equivalent of 3 weeks of days off this year and will need to take at least 2 more to keep from losing any vacation time.

I could've opted for the time to be paid out...but I prefer time off. Work is winding down now so I will start taking it.....starting with 3 days next week!

We do PTO so sick and vacation is the same. I think I have around 55 hours now, I've gone on vacation twice this year so far. I'll save them for XMAS and Thanksgiving and roll some over.

I stay maxed at 240HRS of vacation plus around 40HRS of comp time. They cut it quarterly and everything left over goes into sick time. Probably have around 6 months of sick time built up which will come in handy at retirement time. Sick time doesn't have a cap. At retirement time you can either retire early or tack it on at the end for extended credit of time working for a larger pension check.

I work sourly meaning I get my 40 hours as a salary, plus I get overtime...and anything over 44 hours a week is time and a half. Any O/T I get, I bank for time off later.

I now sit at just a little under 15 weeks available off. Still too busy to use any though 🙁
At the beginning of this year I got 10 days/80 hours. I think in another two years I'll get 5 more days/40 more hours added to that.

As of right now in the year I have 4 days/32 hours PTO remaining for the rest of the year. Fuck. 🙁

About 9.5 weeks

Not allowed to carry any over so I doubt I'll fit it all in.

120 hours and 5 floater holiday days along with the normal 8 calender holidays. If we have to work the calender holidays we get paid double time on top of the holiday pay for working them.

Hours must be consumed every year and cannot be banked.

My job has a max of 200hrs, I was forced to either take a week of vacation or cash it out. This is our busy season so I had to cash out a week. I took a week off in December and maxed out in July. I'll probably take another week off in December.

15 days vacation (company max)
2 floating holidays (Good Friday & 1st day of deer)
7 Holidays

I just got new vacation in the middle of July. Company goes by start date not calendar year for vacation.

10 paid holidays and I get 16.67 hours a month of leave....
Can carry 240hours at any given time

NO ONE is too busy to use vacation time, unless perhaps you own your own company. Schedule the time off and use it.

at the moment, just 5 sick days (well, 4 remaining... 3 after tomorrow)

started a new job a couple months ago and my vacation time doesn't kick in until after my 6-month review... after the review, I'll get 7 weeks PTO (can carry over 2 weeks/year)

None. My job lumps vacation days with sick days. And if you are sick it is mandatory you use a sick day. I have inflammatory bowel disease and usually miss a day of work every few weeks because I just get exhausted. At my current job I will probably never accrue enough time to take a vacation. But it's my own fault, didn't graduate college so am relegated to bottom feeder status for the rest of my days but at least I have video games.

Indy: I agree with you on that... I am very busy but I say fuck them they arent getting over on me....
I just took a week of PTO, granted I only had to use 32.75 hours of leave instead of 40 due to overages for the month which was nice...

I think 7 weeks is nuts

Exactly. Work or "being too busy" is not a valid excuse to not use your hard-earned benefits like PTO. Here's a newsflash - we're all busy. Schedule the time off well in advance and you'll 1) have something to look forward to and 2) have a deadline to work towards. I just put in my request last week to have 12/15-1/2 off. 😀

Remember, work not getting done while you're out of the office isn't your problem -- it is the company's problem. The company isn't going to die because you take a couple of weeks off of work and if they WOULD die, well, they have bigger problems and you should probably look for another job.

(*and yes, if you own your own business or can cash out vacation days, I can understand not taking them)

Thats a nice vacation during Xmas I must say.....

I can usually use "unoffical comp time" but I am careful about it. I am going on travel the 24-28th so I will probably take that Monday off and just kick it ya know... Who knows... I just jumped from 14.00 hours a month to 16.67 hours a month with PTO, which is alot considering we get 10 holidays a year off as well....

I only have a trip planned in Vegas next year early for a bachelor party... PRobably head out there for a long weekend again in a few months.... shit is insanely crazy.

I tell people use it, you earned it dont tell me you dont have time.

What you said about the company part is exactly right. I usually give a month heads up when I will be out for an extended period.

the people who "brag" about having vacation time banked are typically the same people who "brag" about working 50+ hours a week.
