Hmmm, that's odd. Those transmissions are really well built. I hope it's nothing too serious.

Automatic transmissions make me cringe just for this reason. So expensive to fix!

My civic's transmission rebuild (similar issue to yours, basically freak problem) cost about 1500$ (not from honda dealer)

Yep. Newer automatics get pretty good gas mileage versus stick, but god damn those repair bills!

The Avalanches seem to be having tranny issues. My Dad has an 05 or 06 and his went out on him as well - lost 3rd & 4th gear as I recall. Luckily he was under warranty.

solenoid.

Sucks. At least you found someone that can shave off about 30% of the cost.

Is it worth trying to go back to Chevy and seeing if they will help out on this since its fairly late model? I've heard of people going back to the manufacturer and getting them to cover at least some portion of it.

It may be worth it to try, but a 04 w/ 60k on it is not really a fairly late model.

Trannies must be cheaper in Texas. I just had the tranny in my 01 Silverado replaced in Jan of the this year by an independant. $2100 for the replacement, towing and labor. Got a 3/36000 warranty as well. By far the best deal I could find where I live. Chevy dealer wanted close to $3000.
