It's a BOATLOAD of work and time when you're not dealing with your own machines and your own house.

$15/hr. Don't do flat rate.

I made $120 off router + 1 laptop once. They were that badly maintained. That and I also tried installing SP2 and it botched on both machines (WTF is wrong with SP2? I can't get it to install on ANY machine except my own)

Heh, soon as SP2 was coming out I turned off the Automatic Update feature and will never turn it back on.

I have the update sitting on my PC in the background. I am so scared of SP2 that I won't let it install, even though it asks everytime i boot the PC.

$50 an hour minimum. I'd say charge $100 for the basic installation and if she needs anything else, $50/hr. Otherwise your ass will be hers.

$60 to install a wireless router?
What the hell is there to do? You just plug it in and install the drivers. Well she's stupid enough to not do it herself, she should be robbed anyways. :disgust:

LOL.. that made me laugh :D

$50/60 flat or $20/25 per hour whichever the largest.

Installing wireless network can be a snap or a headache if you are unlucky.
She was talking about random wireless router, you don't know the condition of the router. Plus who knows, her house might have thick walls and crazy microwave signals going around that might give you a lot of headache.
And the 2 computers.. you don't know how f-d up are the computers, good luck installing the wireless utility + driver on a virus ridden win98 & ME :p

I did a wireless install with just one wireless machine and it turned out to be quite the job. First router was a netgear fried itself in 24 hours and the replacement took me 3 hours to get setup. The wired machine was running win 2k and evidently win 2k was not compatiable with the software for the microsoft router. I could not get it to work on the old 98 wireless machine using the network card and my laptop happened to be conveniently dead with the charger 20 minutes away from me. I got the charger and set it up but it was a real pita to do.

For two computers....$50 total including the router. It'd take most likely an hour to setup provided that you don't run into any errors when you install the wlan/pci cards for the comps(USB can have better range b/c you can place the antennna where you want, however, USB can be another pain in itself). Quickest way to setup imo would be to use mac filtering.

$100 , ensure the router is placed in the best position, check all over the house to find any dead spots and note or correct, set up the proper pass through ports. Write up a professional looking document showing the steps on what to do (security wise) in case the router gets reset or windows need to be reinstalled.

I agree. On some houses that are having lots of interference, the wireless signal might not be strong enough with WEP enabled. MAC Filtering should be a sufficient security for your typical residential Internet user.

Encryption? Filtering? Updating firmware? Bridging? Aftermarket antennas? These all come into play when charging.
