How much should I charge for a networking job?

Hi there. A friend of mine and I will be networking up a small business in the area. Coincidently, one of our good friends is working there doing some programming.

How much do "professionals" charge an hour for networking? I know it's ridiculously high.

However, our friend is getting paid $13/hour to do some VB programming (pretty easy stuff, based on what I know in VB).

I'm thinking the two of us should charge $30-$35 an hour based on competitor's high prices and the difficulty of the work.

The small biz would foot the bill on the cabling, routers, switchs, raceways, jacks, etc.

30-35 is good for small bussiness charge. thats good rate if you have very basic credentials (one Certification at least or job references).

if you have more experience, charge more.

however, if youre just doing the wiring, no computer work, then its considerably less. cabling is considered tech work, and good rate is about 25.

Regular comp shops charge $35-45.00 an hour. My brother works for IBM and they charge $165.00. How much he makes of that i don't know. A network guy here where i live charges $80.00 an hour. So maybe you wanna go somewhere between $35-80.00 an hour depending on your skill. Are you just building it or admining it? Administrating costs BIG BUCKS dude. Cause you are on call if it breaks.

yeah charge much more if youre adminning it. i just assumed powermac was just getting started in the field so 35 would be alright.

when i do installations i usually charge around 35. unless they want me oncall, which i would charge maybe 50 during install, and a flat monthly fee to be oncall. i figure i get the fee if i do nothing (assuming the network runs reliably). theyre happy with this, im happy.
