how much should a manual transmission oil change cost? $30 too steep?

that's what I was quoted. Seems a bit steep for taking out a drain plug and filling it up via tube. Or is this a good going price?

regular oil changes cost about 25-30 bucks at a shop too. Stop being a cheapskate.

i used to think that changing oil myself would save money, but i think of it this way now:

$5 for 4qts of oil
$5 for oil filter
$x for labor (getting hands dirty, disposal of oil, etc)

so based on walmarts $15 price, i don't mind giving up $x (which in this case is $5).

For me, it is the satasfaction of doing it myself. If i really need one done but I dont' want to do it, ill bring it in.

It's a decent price, the 90weight oiil will be a little more expensive than the mutligrades and in general in the cars I've serviced the oil has to be refilled where you check the oil at and requires an exceptionally long funnel and lots of time to let that 90weight run down into the transmission.

1st off, never go to wall-mart, seconed, $30 is steep (unless you require a special synthetic) I pay $16.99+tax, or I often do it myself for ~ $8.

I still think most of these people are talking about motor oil...not Transmission Fluid.

What kind of vehicle??

A car with no drain plug is more work than simply drain and fill.

It doesn't seem like too much if you require a friction modifier.....also depends on the brand of fluid you go with. I swear by GM syncromesh (my mechanic told me to)

$30 is a fair price for gear oil (manual tranny). That stuff stinks and is a pita to get back in. You'll need your own pump. If it's rr wheel drive, get the rear changed at the same time. I used synthetic in my tranny and posi gear oil in the rear (because I have a posi rear).

I love it when people CAN'T FVCKING READ.

My tranny fluid change runs about $100 on my automatic. Have no idea about a manual, but $30 seems about right.
