The most important thing is how much a babysitter is getting in your area, here you'd be lucky to find someone reliable for less than $15 per hour.

They may take on a large job like this for $100-200 though

To the dude that's paying $20 a day for a private babysitter WTF?!?! Who is going to work for so little?

Yeah, but OP's in California. I'm gonna say $12-13/hr + food expenses.

If you're cheap find a friend or family member that could possibly babysit and you can return the favor by babysitting their kids or providing some other type of service that would benefit them (computer repair, etc.).

Edit: Otherwise plan on spending a bill at least.

Are we sure that guy didn't mean $20/hr?

$100-150, and easy food I would say.

Unless your kids are hellraisers... then you should stay home :)

Where are you located? I pay $20 a day for a private babysitter + food expenses. Some places it can be 50+ per day

$20 a day? Wow that's a steal.

OP I would agree with $100.

If its like a professional service or something then yeah... its gonna cost ya like 2 bills.

the question is... how much do YOU love your children??

more money /= more love.

Paying more than $50.00 plus cost of food ANYWHERE in the USA and you will be spending too much. There comes to a point where you dont pay by the hour but by the job and this is definitely that situation.

No way, awake with the kids for 7 hours for $50 plus overnight stay? Maybe if they are 12 they will go for that low but who wants a 12-year old alone with kids that long.

I would say $100 is perfect (plus money for pizza like others said).

That's the way to do it. Let the sitter name the price.

It took an entire page for this? I'm disappointed...

Depends on age. If it's under 15, a solid $100 would be more than enough. Ask how much she wants, she might low ball.

Some of you pay way too much for child care. Ours is $100 for a full work week of ten hour days.

Day care center is not the same as a private babysitter.

They probably have many kids at the same time so they are getting $100 a week times how many they care for.

I don't see an individual staying with at your house with just your kids for 10 hours a day, 5 days a week for $100 total.

My sis pay $10 per hour. The babysitter clock start the minute she enter the house and stop just before she leave.

In your case it would be 18 * $10 = $180 from 4:00pm to 10:00am the next day.

PS. Meals & activities are included.

A relative of one of my wife's coworkers. She is home all day anyway, and the other people that use her haven't had a problem.

By private babysitter do you mean harboring an illegal alien? I guess I just don't know anyone willing to work for $20 a day...day after day...reliably.

We have an excellent sitter that works for about that. But it's not like she only watches one kid at a time. She probably has an average between 4-6 kids per day, which means she's making about $100 a day. Which is about the average wage around here, plus she get's to stay home.
