Building a new computer,having it hard to decide on Ram?


My Usage:

Web
Video Editing
Gaming
HD videos
Blu-ray Movies
Virtual OS

Multiple windows of above programs and multi-tasking

Well, theres absolutely no reason to get anything less than 8GB these days, honestly that is more than sufficient. Since youre claiming video editing, gaming and multi-tasking, might consider 16GB, but you probably dont need it. 16GB is overkill imo. Kind of depends on what games and how much gaming. With that said, ive seen 16GB kits these days on sale for like $50-60 so....pretty cheap.. Id personally rather run 2 sticks than 4 and I didnt need 16GB so....I went with 8GB. You could always add another 2 sticks in later for 16GB as well. I dont think you have to necessarily buy a matched 16GB kit...

8gb is dirt cheap (yes I know 4gb is cheaper) but for gaming and video 8gb will load smoother and faster especially with larger games and projects.
4gb may not be enuf.
16gb - although it is very cheap now few people need more than 8gb.

As far as speed, there is not much of any advantage above ddr3 1600 short of playing AIDA64 ram benchmarking but we still do.

+1 for that ...ram is dirt cheap so get as much as your budget will allow

Games are coded 32 bit these days. They cannot se more than 4GB and most are not LAA and stuck at 2GB.

Add some extra for having other crap open while gaming.

Add some extra for virtual machine

Depending on you virtual machine usage, 8, 12, or 16 GB. Entirely dependent on how much you expect the VM to use. 6 GB is probably plenty enough for the other stuff you're doing. 8GB may be enough, 16 GB is cheap enough to consider at <$100 just so you don't have to worry about running into a wall.

I purchased to packages of this back in October:

That gave me 16GB at 2133Mhz (over clocked).
I could have gone with 32GB, but would have cost more and not as fast.
So far I haven't had any issues with it and seems to be more than enough for me, including using Sony Vegas for video editing.

Get 8GB for nowl.. then you can upgrade to 16GB in future;
YOur gonna need all that RAM for Adobe Premiere,, photoshop etc.. gl
