How much RAM can Win98 optimally use?

Hey all,

Quick question. I have 256 mbs of PC-133 ram in my system now. With ram prices being so low, I want to get some more ram for my 3d projects.

I heard of some issues with Win 95 slowly down your system because it could not handle to much RAM.
With that in hand, does Win 98 have the limitations on how much ram it can handle?

My MB can handle 1 gig of ram (IWILL kk266)

What would the sweet spot being using Win 98?

Thanks for your time.

Windows 98 cant OPTIMALLY use any RAM :D if you catch my drift;)
No seriously though, 512 mb would work fine.

I wouldnt use more than 256

tbh if you need more RAM then you can also benefit from a better OS...

Whatever better ability to use RAM there is with a "bettter" OS is offset by the fact that the "better" OSes in the Windows line are utter crap. Win98SE uses 512MB of memory just fine.

Excuse me, but I think Win2k is better than Win98. If you are comparing 'the better' os' with other types of OS, like Linux, then I might agree, but you dont specify

I did say the "better" OSes in the Windows line. I think Win2k sucks ass, and WinXP is worse. Just my opinion.

Lord Evermore,

Win2k does NOT suck ass. Your hardware and whoever put together the computer sucks ass!

I'm currently using 512mb with WindowsME and it works just great. I've also seen people use 768mb with Win9x/ME as well.

Yes, the Athlon 800, KT7-RAID and 768MB of memory sucked, that's why I didn't like Win2k.

Farwalker1: was your question "How quickly can I start an argument about OSes?" :)
