How much RAM can I install?

My computer has only 2 RAM slots and I have 128MB installed in each slot. The manual says it can only support a maximum of 256MB RAM total.
Is this true, or is it because this computer is 2-3 years old and they only had 128MB RAM chips in those days.

Which motherboard you have? What Bios (and version) do you use? Have you tried visiting the manufacturer's website to see if they offer a newer version of Bios? Does the newer version support more RAM to be installed?

I think this might be one of the few posts where the reply poses more questions than the one asked, but I guess you get the idea abt finding out the answer to your question
