How much RAM are you using in WinXP?

I'm only at 88.7MB.

This is with one IE window open and ICQ running minimized.

That doesn't seem like that much...I seem to recall being over 100MB in Win2000....

Does WinXP seem to use less Memory than Win2k for you as well?

(I'm using the default Skin with metallic colouring if it maters)

It will probably depend on how many services you have running. For me XP was a major resource hog and I felt that Windows 2000 really performed better. XP was something around 116 with me.

Mine is showing 130MB in use of 260 total... various services, networking and explore.exe seem to be using substantially more now, but with all thats running I would think you have to expect that. With ram so inexpensive these days you should be running a minimum of 256 anyway if you run a business OS like this with networking. Workstations would need at least 512MB to a gig or more depending on usage.

When I boot up, I have about 116MB with XP and about the same with Win2k. I also have several programs and services running at bootup.

Well, I've got 512MB of RAM, and it's used 207MB of that. This is with 17 systray icons/apps open, Outlook Express, WinAmp, and 7 instances of IE.

Pretty much the same as Win2K I feel, though it seems to run a little faster, especially when starting up IE and OE. That could well be down to other things though...

Oh yeah, this is on RC1.

17 systray icons? Uhm...you need to do a little late Spring cleaning, my friend.

I say that is not enough RAM...96mb of ram was what was needed to get some good performance out of win98, and 128mb was what made win2k run smooth...So maybe 128-256 for winxp..but then it just all depends on what programs you run...

Running 256MB Here.

On startup using 86MB, then goes to usually 100MB

Only have
DSL Modem
Winamp
MS Office 2k
WinDVD 2.3
Winzip
and of course UT and CS
installed here.

XP is great, just wish this came out when 98 was released, wow
M$ would have world domination by now :D

I noticed there are a ton of extra services that XP runs compared to Windows 2000. On my Windows 2000 i have all extra services turned off to keep ram usage down, but in XP there are a bunch of new ones that I'm not quite sure if I should mess with.

I haven't really tested it much though. I have a cracked version of XP running on a spare hard drive just to check it out. I just joined the XP Preview Program so when I get my serial number I'll put XP on my main system and see how it goes.

67 meg out of 512 at startup. I shut off a few services but as someone else stated...not sure what some of them do ;).
