Eggs eggs eggs eggs. Cant do better. Cheapest high BV protein you can get. Figure a dozen eggs costs a buck. 6 grams per egg. Thats 72 grams of high quality protein for a dollar. 1.4 cents per gram. Try to come even close to that (in both quality or price) in a shake. Its not even close. That and cholesterol is a test. precursor.
Soy and plant protein is a waste of time and money.
Oh god, not this again. That's almost 2 weeks of cholesterol in 12 eggs. How many times a day do you have to eat 12 eggs in order to get enough protein? Yes, eggs are a superior source of protein and other nutrients. That's undisputable. Not all of us have time to boil, crack, and peel eegs to eat all day. BTW, if you really want to spar in terms of price of cents per gram, it's about 1.1 cent per gram of protein in a shake.
Yeap, this again.Crap on too much cholesterol. Its fine. I do 6 eggs a day. And so far, Im suffering no ill effects. Not saying it'll stay that way, but then again, Id argue that gaining any weight over maintenance (muscle included) is not optimal for your body. If I suffer, Ill suffer later. Im fine with that.
But sure, I'll spar over price/gram f protein. Using the example above, that tub had 35 servings at 40 grams per. Thats 1400 grams per tub. At a cost of $60, that translates to 4.28 cents per gram. To get that in parity with the egg example, youd have to being the cost down to $19.60. Dont think you are going to find that anywhere. Even if you did, I'd still argue that the quality of egg protein is better than the powder.
I'm pretty squarely against supplements. I think they are too much money for an inferior product. I can get better for less by eating well.
I wouldn't argue that egg protein isn't better than powder b/c it is. But that tub of GNC crap is way overpriced. An average 5lb tub of Prolab - about a month's supply for $23. About 2 shakes a day, 2 scoops a shake. On average that's about 100 scoops per jug, 20gm per scoop, so 23 / 2000 = about 1.1 cent per gram.
Regarding eating better for less - lean meats like chicken, turkey, and some red meat isn't very cheap. It's harder for some people with their diets (I myself am asian if that gives you an idea) to get just massive amounts of pure lean meat in. Supplements sometimes are the only way to get that proper protein intake. (And fyi, I eat about 2-3 eggs a day, or try to anyway)
