how much power is enough?

i'm planning on upgrading to an amd xp 1700+ system with a epox 8rda+ board, 2 sticks of pc2700 ram and some other junk...

how much power will i need? will my 300W Antec PSU be enough? i plan on overclocking this chip as high as possible...

and if it's not enough, can you guys make a suggestion for some PSU's please?

A good 300W PSU like most all Antecs should be enough for that system. The XP1700 (thoroughbred) has low power consumption compared to most modern Athlons. I have a non-TB 1900+ in an Epox 8kha+ with 1 512 stick of PC2700, CDRW, SCSI CDROM, NIC, floppy, GF4 Ti440, SBLive platinum, and a few fans all running off a 3 year old 300W Powerman/Sparkle/FSP Group PSU from an Inwin case.

Unless the new Epox board is very picky about power I think you'll be fine.

Antec makes quality PSUs, and EPoX motherboards do an excellent job of supplying good voltages to components. Though I recently upgraded my PSU, it was running fine with a 300W Sparkle PSU (Probably not as nice as yours). It has a 1GHz@1.2GHz TBird, 512MB of memory, 30GB HDD, CD-RW, DVD-ROM, Radeon 8500, and an EPoX 8KHA+ motherboard. I upgraded my PSU because I am about to add another HDD and was already pushing the PSU to it's max. It would be a good idea to upgrade the PSU, but it may not be necessary. I like to try and ensure that I am not stressing the PSU an insane amount, but it can be done with success.
