How much power does a PC consumes a day? Comparable to a 100Watt bulb?

Pocatello, just clarify your question, do you mean does an "average desktop PC" consume more than a 100Wwatt bulb?

Just a thought, but a PC uses much less electricity sitting idle, than under load, doesn't it? So simply saying most PCs have 300watt PSUs isn't telling us much.

Also, just to clarify, are we talking just the PC, or the PC and monitor? A 21" monitor is going to use a lot more power than a 17" model.
 
Agreed. I think the only way this is going to be answered is when someone hooks a PC to a meter and takes a reading.

I have guessed that an idle PC uses about 100-150 watts. But, that's just a guess.
 
Well a friend of mine and I were discussing not to long ago, just how much power our new systems would be using, in an attempt to locate a power supply with sufficient ability to not worry about. We discovered that our Athlon XP 1700's would draw 36 amps of power. I don't recall if this was at idle or under load, but we just assumed it would be idle. So if you do the math, that equals out to about 63 watts of power. You can now apply that to a comparison of how much power you will use. That was just the CPU also, so I think it would be safe to say that an equivelent system will use as much or more power than a 100 watt light bulb.

that's the max output of the PS... it doesnt mean it drains 300W 24/7

if it does i'm in seriously deep S- for next months bill... 🙁
