An interesting comparison would be work vs. home. Toss in the unsuspecting neighbor, the boxes you built for relatives and friends and the local Best Buy and it all adds up pretty quick.

Alternatively, we could add up floating points. 😀

I'm in the 25 to 50GHz range, but almost not fair as I have 26 Ghz and I am counting the AMD stuff by the higher rating number of 2500+, for example, rather than the actual GHz rating.

yeah mondo, that was a missed key. believe me, i know your name 😉

jwmiddleton, the poll asked for ghz, not performance rating 😛 its alright nothing scientific here anyway. the option for work/home/stealth comps would have been good though.

actually, i guess the performance rating of the amd wouldn't be a bad way to figure it. looking at the results there are so many 5ghz and up i'm sure thats alot of pentiums

Yeah ... yeah ... yeah ... blah ... blah ... blah ... that's what they all say .... 😛 I've been called worse ... and not by a fat finger ...

I thought about counting up the GHz today ... but then I thought more about it and came to the conclusion that I should put myself to sleep tonight counting GHz ... he he he

I may have an answer in the AM ... pleasant dreams everyone ... 😉

mondo

I think I was around 17.6 or so at my max last year at this time. I'm down to a single 1.8 at the moment. Half a computer here, half a computer there, parts on the way, parts on their way out. I've probably killed more then half of my trades in fs/t just trying to slip another $2 off something. Just to get the bottom line more appealing I guess.

I got a couple 830 chips & boards, anyone want to help me out? 🙂 😛

5 to 10 ghz for me could be a lot more if I had free electricity. My two best rigs are down at the moment. I have all the parts for a duron 1800 system, no gumption to put it together. Two slot A athlons gathering dust. An XP 1600 and 2000 down, only needs ram I think. All older stuff. I have the parts for a socket 939 system, only things lacking are CPU and ram. I will shut the older stuff down when I get this going.

4 x 2.66GHz here. Just one machine running dual Xeons with HT.

EDIT: I was getting ready to write 1100 watts in responce to the title... 🙁

OK - that is a good replacement for one of my comps - I need 8: 64 processes crunching ... $440 388.56. Where would I get the best volume discount? 😉
Oh, and what kind of power supply? is 800W sufficient? 😀

I've got a 1.33GHz PowerBook G4 and P4 2.8GHz PC actively crunching at the moment.

Maybe one day I'll reassemble all the bits I have lying around, but I remember during the SETIClassic days the noise used to drive me crazy 😛

Hmmm I agree with freewold ... not enough. I'll bet the wife disagrees though.

I think I have between 1 and 30 around here somewhere😉

Home Fleet
1x3 gig P4
2x2.8 gig P4
3x2500 amd
1x2600 amd
2x2000 amd
1x1800 amd
1x dual core 165 opty.
1x 2500 needing new MB.

someone else can do the math. I can't add that high.

Let's see...

At Home
1.8 AMD Turion
1.4 AMD Tbird (secretly running in the basement)
3.2 P4 (my daughter steals cycles playing SIMS2)

At Work (until IT catches me)
1.7 pentium M
3.4 P4 linux workstation 🙂

Ok, here is what I am currently running:

Dimes & SOB
XP1700+ 256M RAM, Win2K
XP2100+ 512M RAM, Win2K
P4 1.6Ghz socket 478 256K L2, 512M RAM, XP Pro (soon to be upgraded to a 2.4Ghz, 512K L2 CPU 🙂 )
P4 2.6Ghz, 1G RAM, 2003 Server

F@H
TBird 1Ghz, 256M RAM, Win2K
P4 1.6Ghz socket 478 256K L2, 256M RAM (this one is down as the CPU is currently in the P4 1.6Ghz above)

I am running at just over 10GHz , although none of the computers run continuously.

One used to but the CPU fried itself (due in part to a substantial overclock and insufficient cooling) and I never got round to replacing it.
