2002 U.S. Median Income for 4-Person Family $62,732

"Middle class" here is defined as those people with incomes between 33 percent less than the national median and 50 percent more than the national median. - Text
  • $62,732 = Median
    $42,030 = Lowest Middle Class
    $94,100 = Highest Middle Class

94K is the highest middle class? by that standard, I am close to top! seriously, this number doesn't make sense. 200K is more like it.

Seriously.

There is no way that's right. I make much more than that but I still feel like a pauper. $100K in the NYC tri-state area is not a lot of money.

Hence the location, location, location aspect. California and the metro area of the east coast make up what, less than 1/3 of the countries population? Look in between those states and you'll see that RARELY does anyone make $100,000. For every $100,000 income earner on the coasts, you have 3 non-coast living person making $35,000 - $50,000.

depends on where you live for sure, but in general, except for really expensive and really cheap places, it is (IMO)

35K up to 100K -total household gross income

I find that to be a huge gap. I live in Michigan where the cost of living is pretty low. I would say middle class would be around $35-65K. Upper middle from $65-100K, and Upper class to be above $100K. Then again I have never made more than $60K in one year, so I might be looking at it through different eyes.
