I don't know about you, but I don't work 2080 hours a year. Considering most people get at least two weeks paid vacation, using 2000 is a quick and easy way to estimate.
2 weeks
PAID vacation. Since the vacation is paid out, you must use 2080 as the number of hours when converting a salary to an hourly wage or you get an hourly rate assuming that the vacation is unpaid time, which is not accurate.

Yes I know it's
PAID vacation, I also said it's an
ESTIMATE. It's also an
ACCURATE measurement of the amount you get paid per hour of
ACTUAL work, assuming 40 hours per week and two weeks of
PAID vacation. It is not the hourly rate that would appear on your
PAYSTUB but that is a largely
MEANINGLESS number to a salaried employee. Depending on why the
OP is asking his question, dividing by 2000 may give him a more
USEFUL number (for instance if he is comparing a salaried position to an hourly contract position).
