how much PC junk do you have?

I just cleaned out my storage area (haven't touched garage yet) and I have 2 large trash bags full of computer crap, old cables, old boxes, bags and bags of screws.

Garage will be worse, I have a couple laundry baskets full of old motherboards, keyboards, crap like that.

A lot. I probably have enough parts to build 1.5 PCs.
Some old memory, lots of cables, ties wires, screws, etc.

old computer junk consists of many old pci cards and plates and of course their cables.

way too much. I built a full length rack on the 24 foot wall of my garage with three shelves. I built it to fit these clear tupperware bins and call it my "wall of shame" 😛
I am getting rid of it over time.
Just a couple of days ago it did yield a nice surprise. I got a call from a friend at a law office, their old phone system got nuked by the power outages. I had some systems here and was able to sell one for a nice chunk of change. They called me at 9 and had a complete phone system in place by 2.

2 13 gallon bins. What really suck is the local recycling center won't take the parts till spring 🙁

Not much, I clear stuff out pretty often due to CL. Just got rid of an old single-core Pentium M notebook for $50 on craigslist. I was surprised that like 200 people emailed me in 10 minutes hah. It's nothing special, 15" screen, dvdrw, 1gig ram, 160gb hard drive. Misc stuff I usually build up until it's about a box of excess and then I sell it all for $20 or a case of beer.

not much. i have a number of old laptops, but as far as PC parts go all i've kept is my old Kyro II <3

I throw all that shit away before it builds up. I keep a few ethernet cables, and a few SATA cables. I just cleaned house the other day and got rid of tons of USB cables, proprietary phone cables, an HD homerun, a Fusion HDTV5, a couple of old 7200rpm 1tb hds and all the gtx2XX video cards I had crammed on the shelf next to my desktop PC.

A lot. Probably 3 old PC's, two or three new cases, several hard drives, even a spare Intel X2 SSD, tons of cables, two old CRT's one of which has denied me my lazy chair for years sitting in my spot broken, a 2.1 and a 5.1 PC speaker set neither used but a third 2.0 on the way now (black friday), a cheapo spare printer, the 3D monitor I just got still in the box... oh and thousands of PC games.

sounds like decent stuff to me D:

Tons. I still have my first IBM compatible computer. A 486DX50. Ya know, thinking about it; I might still have my very first computer at my mother's house; an Atari800 :^D My prize piece of junk is an old Packard Bell computer a coworker gave me. It still works, but I want to use the case for a future build. It has stepped sides, and looks like an art deco building. I'm gonna go all out with that theme, and make a tacky art deco media computer. I'll take a little thought fitting stuff due to the non standard shape, but if worse comes to worse, I'll use mini ITX or something like that. It doesn't have to be a powerhouse or anything.

I throw away hardware without any problem. Boxes, cables and screws are my big problem.

yeah, similar state of affairs as rudeguy's pics 🙂

hmm, huge box full of parts, tools and stuff, big box o' cables, small box of tools, chemicals, and screws, years of hardware boxes ( containing most of their screws, etc ), a a decent htpc case and usable receiver i have to find a home for, and so on. i have a 1-bedroom apartment, and briefly contemplated getting a still, a drill press, and other inappropriate hardware.

I used to have an entire "computer crap" room. I've been making an effort to clean it out. I'm down to 3 large plastic tub bins. My goal, by the end of the year, is:

1. Computer toolbox
2. Computer parts/wires bin
3. Laptop
4. File server
5. HTPC

A central file server to store everything, the laptop to be mobile, the HTPC for media playback, and a toolbox and parts bin. I've been chipping away on it over summer...it's difficult, getting rid of stuff. I have a really hard time with it. There's that emotional side of your brain that says "but I bought this...I may need it...someday...I can't get rid of it" lol.

People who come in my home all, invariably, comment that it seems more of a laboratory than an apartment. There's tech stuff literally everywhere, with the possible exception of (most of) the kitchen and the bathroom. I'm actually thinking of putting up some wide shelves close to the roof so I can get some of my stuff off the furniture.
The situation worsened when I got a flatmate and gave her the room that I previously used as a warehouse, and as a result had to spread the stuff it contained around the rest of the apartment. Heavens know how she puts up with me. 😀

I'm gearing up to throw some of this stuff away - old useless computer cases, small CRT monitors that I'm never gonna use anymore, stuff like that - but by and large, any home of mine will always be a laboratory first and a home second... and I wouldn't have it any other way.

Not much. I just threw out an old Diamond AGP vid card. The only other stuff besides cables is an older scanner and SCSI card I might use with a second computer.

sounds like decent stuff to me D:

Sounded like transparent BS bragging to me.

"Oh, YES, I toss out 1 TB hard drives and Gtx vid cards, and I trade my cars in when the brake pads wear out." 🙄

My closet is all computer stuff. 3 old 90s & early 2000 computers that I havent felt like investing into. I havent gotten around to dropping cash on them or getting rid of them because I'd like to see if I can use them to get to play old win9x games. The games that won't work at all on XP+ machines.

I realistically know that I won't even use them in a new computer since I'll use 3TB hard drives and an SSD in anything new.... and anything worth less than $100 isn't worth the pain of putting it on ebay and driving it to the post office.

I've got a $1800 turbocharger sitting out in the garage that really needs to go on ebay, but it's such a pain. It's been out there for ~2 years.

Essentially when considering my dislike of clutter, how painful it is to ebay stuff, and the value of things, if it's less than $100, it's going in the garbage.
