Back in the day, our family (myself, two brothers, my parents, plus a pet) would spend about $150 a week on food, with plenty of coupon clipping and that kind of stuff. As kids we obviously bought candy and other stuff now and then, it came strictly out of our own allowances.

Right now it's just me, and I try to keep it under $30-$40 a week, and I limit my eating out as much as possible (none in the past two weeks).

It always seems that ho-hos and hot pockets have coupons... I'd be better off not buying those things and picking up some apples....

I do like the .10¢ and 10 for $10 sales that places around here run...

NO!!!!!!

there are coupons for EVERY THING out there. razor blades, shampoo, everything. don't diss coupons - just don't cut out the hot pockets and ho-ho ones.

i have coupons for yoplait yogurt, canned soup, claritin... and on cleaning supplies. you can clean up on cleaning supplies if you plan accordingly.

and buy things on SALE. if you're not picky eaters, eat the meat that's cheap that week. plus it's meat. if it's on sale, you can freeze it and eat it later. vegetables you almost have no choice, along with fruit, but if you want to maximize, you can eat the fruit of the week that's on sale that week. although frozen veggies work fine if you're just going to cook them up anyways (obviously buy fresh if you're going to have salads) since the frozen vegetables are frozen at their peak of freshness and haven't been sitting in a truck for three days to get to your grocery store.

the two of us spend roughly 300 bucks a month on groceries, partially that high because my bf likes buying frozen meals (we cook dinner nearly every night, i bring my own home made lunch to work, and i make my own breakfast.)

just make sure you read the weekly ads for your grocery store. i have no loyalty - i buy groceries wherever it is cheaper. except i don't go to rock bottom places... some of them frighten me. if i had money, i'd shop at whole foods all day long.

I agree...I pay $1.50 a week and subscriibe to the Washington Post and just from that week alone, I usually save $40 in groceries at least! Also, there are a ton of restaurant coupons in there too! I also buy GCs from restaurant.com and between that and my restaurant coupons, I always have a nice selection to choose from when we feel like dining out. A couple of weeks ago, my grocery receipts came up to $240, but after coupons on top of the sales they were having, I only had to pay $105! It's enough food to last a month for my boyfriend and I and our little pets :) I coupon dog food/treats too! In fact, I'm looking through my coupon book and grocery store sales right now to match up coupons :)
