How much of your disposable income do you actually spend?

In addition to taxes, exclude other unavoidable incurred costs, i.e. mortgage payments, utilities, gas, insurance, etc. Include cost of food (since this is a variable cost), premium over standard high speed internet, premium over standard cable, retirements savings, etc.

In my current occupation I probably spend around 10% under the criteria above.

In my case, I think the answer is "too much!" However, I've never really calculated it... IIRC I have about $2500-3000 per month of disposable income, after all bills. Lately, my mission has been to convert as much of that into savings as I can.

Well, I don't budget properly, I eat out too much, and I like expensive things... So, i spend most of monthly income on stupid stuff, except for what i need for bills, 401K and insurance, gas, and the like.

Probably less than $100/month.

How can you live comfortably with <$100/mo? I take it you're a student?

You said how much of my disposable income do I spend?

Disposable income = money left after bills. I waste about $100 a month and save the rest.

EDIT: Looks like I'm confusing disposable with discretionary income.

After bills, I usually spend about 300-400 a week on crap I don't really need but is kind of nice to have and save the rest. Today I bought Resident Evil 1 & 2 on dvd because I sorta liked the first one except for the ending which was laughable.

About $1000/month. All the remaining thousands go into emerging markets. Retired at 30. Well, probably not, I want to continue doing things regardless of my finances 🙂

Very little. I pirate and shoplift whenever I can.
Usually walk out on the bill and normally pull money out of the church donation box.

I need whatever I can get to help me pay for a damn house.

All of it. Whenever I get a decent amount saved it gets spent. We've been improving our house one thing at a time, that takes a lot. Bought an engagement ring.

Next goal is to pay off $20k of cc/home improvement debt over the next year. Once that's done, I envision actually building up some savings.

Not that much really.

The wife and I mostly cook at home during the week days.

Only thing we spend disposable income on is eating out on weekends and seeing a movie every now and then.

Maybe 10-15%

I take home ~3k after bills and I probably spend 300-500 on misc crap during the week (like going to the bar, movies, buying stuff off the HD forum).

Retire at 30? Good luck with all that.

I try to spend 100-150 a month on myself. Rest goes to the wife and kids. Trust me, it's worth it.

Discretionary income is probably a better term for what I am asking.

Discretionary income? Wish that I had some of that 🙂

Between the condo, the car, the taxes, the utility payments, and food... I might have $50 left over at the end of the month 🙁
