How much of an overall performance boost

If you had to put a % on the below upgrade for overall system performance, what would it be ?
20%? ........ 40% ? ? ? Any ideas ?

Pent4 3.2/800

40% depending on what you are doing. The extra 400mhz in clock speed will be decent, but the big thing will be bus speed. The P4s really benifit from high clock speeds.

id say more like 30-35% but thats me talking with no numbers to back me up but a 800bus system with pc3200 ram will be an improvement over the 2.66 but probably not worth the $$$

You will definitely "feel" the speed when running applications with that upgrade.

And the P4 3.2/800, with a mobo that supports it, has hyper-threading which has its real-world advantages.

0% if you are using it for internet browsing ... I guess, the point is what this is being used for.


For Database applications, hard drive speed may be a bottle neck .. for many dvd applicatiion, DVD-RW/ROM speed might be limiting ... but for video encoding I guess, upto 30-40% ....

well ... the clock speed is 20% more, however, many things don't scale linearly with clock speed.

The 50% increased FSB will have some benefit ...
Hyperthreading will also be nice at times.


I think if you are doing lots of multitasking ... it will seem a good 40% to 50% faster at times, however, sometimes, you may notice no difference at all ... (though benchmarks will probably be about 15% higher at the lowwest and about 50% higher at the max ...

so, overall ... I'd say about 25 to 33 % more speed ...
