How much of a hit would I take?

I have a 6950 1gb. Its too loud for my tastes and I wanted to install a Artic Cooling Twin Turbo on it, but it turns out it is not compatible with it. I have looked at other coolers and I just don't care for them. I want to get a 6870 and put the twin turbo on that, as I know its fits and works perfect. I play BC2 at 1920x1200 with 16X AF and 2-4X AA butter smooth with the 6950. Will the 6870 be able to play at those setting butter smooth as well?

A gtx460 for me got solid frame rates at 1920x1080,not sure how much of a difference that means to you .

Another option to play with.

Mainly because the fan header on my non-reference 6950 is only 2 pin. The fan header on the twin turbo is 4 pin. So I could not directly plug the twin turbo into the 6950 card. I would have to run the adapter to one of the fan headers on my motherboard, and I have no spare ones. So then I would have to buy an adapter for that and then have just more wires and mess in my system..

I'm pretty sure they say not to power the fans on the Twin Turbo from the card fan header and in my opinion that is a real bad idea in any situation.

You should hook it up to a molex adapter.

Edit: With a little effort all wires can be hidden.

Have you considered underclocking your card and turning the fan speed down? After that order the adaptor then reset the speed to stock when it arrives. I doubt 1 cable would mess up the cabling of your system that badly.

Edit:
Can't you connect it to the 4 pin floppy connector from your PSU?

you wanna change cards cause you don't want to get a simple adapter? or mess up your cabling? OCD much? I'll trade you my whisper quiet EVGA GTX 460 SC if you really want it

The twin turbo will fit. I wouldn't run the fans off of the card either way to be honest. You could always pick up a nice fan controller to pull all of your fans off of the motherboard while you are at it.

Why wouldn't you? The cooler is designed for that specifically in mind. And with the Ati drivers you can control the speed of it. My friends 6870 is setup that why and its perfect..

What happens when something goes wrong with that software? I've had this happen. It's a pita to constantly have to monitor your temps. I really like the set it and forget it approach. Its one of the big advantages of aftermarket cooling, imo.

Remember that Nvidia card killing driver? Other than the fan speed issue it was a great driver. I used it for months since I had an HR-03 with a fan being powered off of a molex connector.

I have two 6850 with arctic twin turbo on both. I get around ~45avg with one card on BF @ 1080p, everything set on high.
They are DEAD silent, but still, I wouldn't downgrade just because the cooler doesn't fit.

Getting a molex adapter is a lot less $$/effort than downgrading your video card imho.
