How much mpeg-4 fits on an SD card?

should I get a 1, 2, or 4 GB SD card for my new camera? It does mpeg and says that high quality videos transfer at 4.2 MB a second, which works out to about 4 minutes of video on a 1 GB card. Am a calculating right? Thanks.

uh, 4.2MB/sec is the speed of transferring stuff from you computer to the SD card. just off the top of my head, i'd say a full length feature film takes up between 700(1CD) and 1400 Megs (2CDs). why don't you check with whatever video you want to store on there? go compress a movie or something and find out for sure.

yea I just wasn't sure if it would fill up faster with an mpeg that was being recorded directly onto the card from the camera, but I guess what you're saying is that it will fit just as much as if I had put a pre-recorded video on there to watch on my psp or something.

the manual didn't give any ballpark lengths at all, and the 8 megs of internal memory only hold a couple seconds of footage. Hard to tell... not much experience.
