My wife just asked "if our cat was sick, would you spend $600.00 to treat her?" I said "No", now I'm an a$$hole! Just out of curiosity, how much would you pay to have a pet treated if it was sick.

P.S.- Our cat is not sick, and does not require this...yet

Depends how close the pet is to the family.

EDIT: In a relationship, you always want to answer with what you think she wants to hear. Otherwise expect to sleep on the couch.

depends on how much i like the animal...like if it had been the family pet for 10 years, had saved my infant from drowning once...stuff like that i would spend 20 bucks or so to help it out... :p

It depends on how old the animal is... Spending $600 on an animal that is only a few years old and has a long life ahead of them is one thing, but spending $600 on a cat that is 18 is something entirely different. There comes a point in an animals life where the owner has to be willing to let them go.

Really you need to think about the quality of life for your pet. If $600 could fix a cat or a dog that was young, and there would be no complications later on, I would spend it in a minute.

It also depends on if I had the money to spend.... Paying bills, rent, and buying food is more important for me (and a hypothetical family) is more important, and if I had to make the choice, I would go with keeping myself fed with a roof over my head.

If you can afford it and dont spend it then your pretty worthless as a person.

An animal is like a child. You took responsibility for that life when you brought that pet into your home.

my parents adopted a cat that was "my" cat and he was the coolest cat ever and he ate a lot of string that he found in my mom's sewing kit and it like knotted around his colon and we had to pay like 1000 dollars for the operation

Idiot! That was one of those loaded questions like: Does this make me look fat?

I've been married long enough to know the minefields!

True to all. Lots of variables to think about. Once again, my cat IS NOT sick or dying, and I WOULD spend money to help it if needed. I'm just asking how much other people would be willing to spend on an animal...that's all. I LOVE our cat, she is part of our family, just looking for diffeerent input.

$5

ok, maybe $25

but i grew up on a farm where you shot your pets/dogs when they got sick and if the cat had kittens, you put them in a gunny sack with some rocks and found a pond somwhere to get rid of them

paying $ to a vet is reserved for farm animals, like cows

Our cat had cancer. We paid hundreds of dollars in x-rays, having fluid removed from his lungs, etc. We had him put down about 3 weeks later when he got worse again, but I know what we did made it less painful for him and let him live for just a little longer. It was worth it. I really miss that cat.

It depends on how much you love your pet.
