I think that's a question you really have to answer, not us.

If your question is, "What's the least I need to spend to comfortably accomplish these goals" then $1000 is probably fine, since it sounds like you already have a monitor. That $1000-1200 range is sort of the sweet spot in terms of price/performance.

You can do it for less than $1000, but you start having to make compromises.

You can certainly spend more than $1200 and buy higher-end parts, but it's not strictly necessary. Some people do enjoy that though. That's why I say whether or not it's worth the extra investment is really a question you have to answer for yourself.

Edit: And if you do decide to spend over $1200 I would look into upgrading your monitor.

Actually, considering your monitor resolution, I'd say you could swap the 7850 into [thread=2192841]Mfenn's build[/thread] with no problem. So $800-900 is where you have to start making compromises if you don't upgrade your monitor.

But you haven't quite answered all [thread=80121]our questions[/thread] yet. Such as the overclocking one.

Edit: And do you live near a Micro Center?

o_O :hmm: D:

A PC is not an investment, it has no chance of appreciating in value.

You probably already knew that, but really, we need to have some more info like Ken and DSF suggested.

My $1000 number was assuming purchase of an OS license, but again we need the answers to the questions.

The answer to that really depends on how much disposable income you are willing to allocate to fun and games. If playing games means a lot to you, then you can decide what percentage of your income fits. Apparently you do not support yourself with food, housing, etc.
