You think?😉

I already answered that 🙂

and to those carrying $100s around with you... wow.
I have About $35 in my wallet now. More than I've carried except for special occasions in forever.

Actually no... the reason I thought of this question was becuase there was an article on robbers hot-wiring forklifts at construction sites to yank the ATMs out. Then I thought "wow thats a lot of effort... how much is in those things?"

It can't be $50K or even $100K Thats WAY too much. Think about it. At $40 a pop thats 2500 transactions in a day. I just don't see that.

who the heck only gets 40 bucks out? Heck, my ATM has a "quick 400 cash" and that's what I normally get.

I'd guess it's a lot more than 100,000.

I usually just take out $10-20. It just depends on what I need it for. I had $1 on me earlier today, but it put it in the vending machine about an hour ago 🙂

How can people not carry cash anymore? When I deposit my paycheck I usually get an extra $100~200 out for small things during the week like a snack from the store, a few beers at the bar, lunch/dinner etc.... Then when I run out of cash I usually go back to the ATM for $20~40. I try to only use a card for large purchases, but it is nice to be able to pay with a card at fast food places now.

I always hate it when I go out to dinner with a group of friends that was planned in advance and nobody has cash so the ticket has to be split 5 ways. I also hate leaving my credit card to run a tab at an unfamiliar bar.

who deposits their check? Automatic deposit! (I will NOT say "FTW")
but you did admit that you only withdraw $20-$40 at a crack

I think the "quick 400 cash" is after it has learned your typical withdraw amount. My ATM has "quick 20 cash" because I usually withdraw either $20 or $40. I'm a student, so of course I'm not going withdraw a lot, but even my parents only take out $80 at a time. I would imagine $400 withdraws are extremely rare now with the vast majority of places taking debit cards.

Sure, and you also help drive up the cost of goods as well. Cash FTW.

I'd guess....

$20 per transaction x 10 transaction per day x 14 days before it get filled = $2800

This would be at a remote location. At a bank, it'd surely be much greater.

Are you serious? I've been at some ATMs and seen 10 transactions withing 10 minutes. And most poeple take more than $20. I'd say remote locations hold

Avg $60 per transactions x 5 per hour x 18 hours = $5400 per day at least x 14 days (don't know why you put 14 days, but just to make the math even) = $75,600

I carry £60-80 tops on me which is @ $100-130. This is at the start of the week and it gets less and less as it nears Friday 😛. This is so I don't have to end up going to the ATM too often.

Koing

They don't actually hold any money. THey each have a small printer inside and when you request money, it just prints it and shoots it out the slot.

I remember seeing a video of thieves ramming their pickup truck into a convenience store, then loading the atm machine into the truck and getting away.

And then they get arrested when they try to spend the burnt money.

They cut the box open with an oxyacetylene outfit and torched the money too!

Never heard of a grinder?

Ever use one? They would catch paper on fire as well.

Hard to say - I'm not up on my burglary skills.

Friction wheels if carefully controlled could most likely cut a box with minimal damage to the contents though. Of course most thugs are going to be quick to get their loot and quite careless. 😛

I use my Amex Blue for stuff like the grocery store, gas, and most other purchases, but I limit myself to $400 dollars for spending every two weeks and use it on things such as lunch/dinner/going out drinking/playing poker with friends or at the casino's. Like other people mentioned when going out to dinner I hate when nobody has cash and has to split the bill. I'd also much rather pay cash as I go at a bar that way I can also keep track on how much I'm spending on drinks!

Until my most current job I have not worked for anybody with a direct deposit option for almost 8 years (small companies and temp work). I got used to getting paid by check, and going to the bank on payday is just part of my routine. I also like my bank branch near work, the girls who work there are nice and cute and there is never a line even at lunch time.

My paychecks are direct deposited....hell, I don't even have to go to the bank anymore.

My wife used to work at a bank and her job was to stock the ATM. She said she would stock stock $40k in 20s and $20k in 10s. There are up to 4 cannisters in the unit, but only 2 are usually filled. However, this is for an ATM that dispenses increments of $10. I would guess that they could probably hold as much as $150k if it is freshly filled to capacity and only gives $20 bills.

That is correct. The Diebold cassettes hold 2000 notes. A 5 stacker unit could be loaded with a Mill in $100 if they wanted too.
