As little as possible. Money sucks way it devalues over time. Especially so now Obama has printing pressing rolling full speed ahead.

Around $3k, slowly dwindling since wife was laid off over 7 months ago and hasn't found anything since. When she was laid off I had around $10k. I'm looking at picking up a second job on the weekends now.

Usually don't keep much in our checking account. Bills are paid every pay period, and most of the remaining money gets transfered to savings. I usually keep $200-$300 in there as a cushion.

5000 something in checking, which is more than i usually like in there, going to transfer some to investments soon.

also have about 4000 in savings which i just keep there as an emergency thing. i know i'm missing out on a little investment income by keeping it in the bank money market savings account instead of something else, but oh well.

about $1500 in checking but I also have about $20,000 in tuition debt so that works out to -$18,500

A lot.

But then again, I am unemployed and paying for a house that I am not living in (I moved) while I wait for it to sell.

Sucks having money and not being able to spend it. :x

Same here except I like a $500 cushion once all the monthly bills are paid. Anything over $4000 in our savings account gets invested somewhere else also. Spent a lot of money last month (yea 10 year wedding anniversary trip to Las Vegas!!), so savings needs to be rebuilt ATM.
