edprush,

I understand exactly where you are coming from my brother.... about 4 years ago I was badly receding and my hair had thinned out to the point where I could easily see my scalp when looking at myself in the mirror.

I researched what I could do about it and found that Proscar (same ingredient as Propecia, but this was before Propecia) was working very well for a lot of people. The 5 mg Proscar tabs can be quartered into 1.25 mg chunks and taken daily. I started on this and also taking Minoxidil (Rogain). It took several months but I started to make progress. I have now recovered a good deal of the hair I had before I begain to recede. You would never be able to tell by looking at pictures that I used to have badly receded hair.

Although some people have had minor side effects from taking Propecia or Proscar I have not had any.

Email me with any more questions you have.

I know how hard this can be on your self esteem.

Azraele-

<< I'd follow the others' suggestion of see a doc.

If you decide against that:

How old are you?
>>

I'm 32 years old.

<< Are you at an age where you'd expect balding? >>

I never expected balding but I know it does happen to people my age.

<< Does balding run in the family? >>

My father is in his mid 50's and he has a lot of hair. But his brother is nearly bald. On my mother's side I really don't know any of them.

<< Have you changed shampoos recently? >>

No I haven't.

<< Diet? >>

My diet is nearly impeccable. I don't mean to sound arrogant. I eat 3 square meals per day. I don't drink or smoke. I eat several servings of fruit per day. I try to stay away from red meat. I exercise routinely. But you know what the odd thing is? My cholesterol has been over 300 since I was 21 years old. Doctors have sent me to dieticians that followed my eating regimen and are baffled as to why my cholesterol numbers are so high.

The fact that your brother is bald makes it more likely you will be bald as well.

You can use rogaine to help offset it (I think they sell it over the counter now, so you don't need to get a prescription for it). If you are going to use rogaine, start now before it is too late.

Sorry about the confusion. It's my DAD'S BROTHER that is nearly bald. My dad's hair is doing pretty well.
