How much life is still in LGA 775?

I was thinking of getting a C2D machine now, but how much life do you think the socket will have? The Quad cores use the same socket, right? I'd like a machine where theres plenty of room to upgrade in the future.

Wow... How much life in a new socket? Um, more than socket 939? I have no idea, but I don't think you need to be too concerned about it.

I ask because in the past, Intel has gone and done a lot of socket switching, forcing customers that want to upgrade to have to drop more cash than they should

Apparently mid-2008 there will be a socket change for on-board mem controller CPU's, but between now and then, I wouldn't expect one.
That doesn't mean that mobos will still work though, since often you can stick with the same socket but need new chipsets etc. Socket A was around for a long time, but that doesn't mean a Socket A board from back in the day would run an XP 3200+.

Hasn't LGA775 been around for a long time, I've been wondering the same thing. I think the AM2 socket might last longer because it'll be compatible with AM3 cpus, only time will tell.

LGA775 has been around for almost 3 years! IIRC it came out at the end of 2003. If it lasts until 2008 I will be VERY impressed.

Sounds like Socket A's longetivity!
