A/C in the summer increases my electric bill by $20-30. Same with heat for winter. I average around $90-110/mo. during the coldest and hottest months.

Just bought my first house in May, so I'm not sure what it'll be. Have gas water heater and gas furnace.

I went from the normal $20 (water heater only, which is a huge waste since half of that is just to be a customer, so if I had an electric water heater I could cancel in the summer) to $41 last month. I fully expect it to double again by mid winter, maybe even a bit more.

In pretty much every situation, prices which were stable skyrocketed after regulation OR after deregulation. It doesn't matter which happens, but prices soar. Companies take it as their best excuse to do a one time price raise. The only exception is if fees soar or if service plummets.

but when i was living in a house, my bill never topped $20, even in the dead of winter. total bill never topped $35. small house + resonable temps + compact florescents + CA = cheap bills.

I'm in SoCal. Big house with lots of big open rooms and/or vaulted ceilings=higher heating/cooling costs. Still, I don't run the heat much. My electric bill ranges between $65-120 from lowest to highest. I'm sure I could get it lower than $65 if I really wanted to though.
