all in all im predicting 2kw after i bring my quad gpu box + file server online, and counting the rig im running at a friends house. right now its 1350w. at aprox $0.50/KWhr its $4380 a year once i bring the 4th rig online, but lucky me i dont pay for any of it lol. 3 rigs that are at home are on my step dad's bill, and he works in IP lit, makes more in an hour than my personal monthly power bill, and the 4th rig accounting for the last 300w is run at a friends house since it's his actually his. i built it for him 2/3 on my dime and he runs seti and collatz until he pays me back in full :D. california is not a good state to be in if you're a cruncher LOL. if i keep living here at these rates im either gonna have to go all solar on my farm or pay a friend to run my boxes out of state D:

well.. it's more to do with school work.. the computers supplied by the university are just too slow for me.. so i provided my own. I'm currently doing some board design work for one of the other departments and so i currently have an i7-920 with 2 8800gt and one gts240 running three monitors... makes it sooo much easier to do circuit and board design.. I never have to worry about a slow computer or for software to start up... it's quick... and i'm running DC on it 24/7... just my lab mates are worried that it's a little loud. I had built thier lab computers to run quiet. (i7-860, 6gigs, gt210).. I don't run DC on thier computers. I only run DC on my computers, less problems that way.

yeah, I don't run DC on computers with users that might squawk about it. at work just the service guys and office personnel.

I'll scan the account details later and post em....
but.. I used 1970 KWH for service from Aug 14 til Sep 11. but i haven't been running my fleet the first couple of weeks... so... my next bill will probably be larger... and I haven't been running AC either.

Wow! When you say "fleet", you mean it. I thought I was scared to get my first "full time folding" bill this month, but after seeing that, I'm feeling pretty safe.

I thought you'd be paying about 10 cents/KWH in your new place? Are there other charges? My electric company charges for "delivery" which is about equal to the KWH charge.

I don't know the rate in Seattle since it comes with the apartment.

I do know this:

With three over-clocked quads, two flat screen monitors, a laser printer, a large window fan, a desk lamp, a coffee maker, a panini grill, a microwave oven, and a recharging nose-hair trimmer all going at once, it all comes to a stop when the refrigerator kicks in.

an encore post from some time back

i'm working on getting the lower rate through one of the brokers.. i just wanted to see what my actual bill would be and then the realization of the actual savings..
at @15-20 percent saving by switching... i'm definately switching.

Lol, at walking in the dark, not the bill! ;)

Btw if it helps, my Q6600 when it was at 3.34 GHz rig drew 225-230w running DC, the HD 4830 added about 50-60w loaded.
Although here we run 230v AC, I believe you in the USA run 110v? which would give you lower effiency.

Central air is 230 volt. Window AC units are all 115/120v.

My latest bill is only $276, as I shut off the 2 260 GTX units with their quad hosts.
And I burned up an E5520 on a bad motherboard. Tomorrow my new MB comes (GA-X58A-UD3R) and the other E5520 should be back in business with 2 470 GTX cards !!!.

Central air = Intergrated AC?

Btw re AC voltage, I was thinking primarily for PSUs, but of course it effects everything hooked into the mains ;).

Re E5520, did you mean E5200? , anyway RIP that CPU! :(

My power bill is $80 per month. Thats with a Mac Mini(30W), Dual Xeon server(220W) and a miniITX gateway server(30W) pretty much running at idle plus networking and appliances. My utility company has tiered billing and part of my bill is Tier 3. If I crunch with all of my PCs, I'm looking at $300 because Tier 4 power is over $0.20 per kWhr for power usage above 646 kWhr per month.

Ok... well.. i'm moving into a house... so i'm losing the luxury of not having to pay for my utilities.

... blah... blah... blah..

sooo... assuming i have 15 computers averaging 600 watts

... blah .. blah... blah.. .

well... at least i won't have to heat during the winter time. :D

last electric bill was $377... i thought it would have been higher.. and it's kinda cold in my place... need to bring more puters out of dry dock.. it's a chilly 74F in my living room.. not used to it being so cold. :)

Is that your real rate? I'm at .13/KWhr, and also in California.
