How much is your clothes budget?

I think I need to dress better? Wife isn't digging the worn Jeans and worn sneakers look anymore. Just wondering what an average clothes budget is? Do you guys throw away or give away clothes monthly or yearly? I've always been the guy that has t shirts that are a few years old.

Maybe $50 a month for me with the occasional larger purchase for work pants or suits. I don't include my outdoor gear in that part of my budget.

I don't really have one. I hate shopping for clothes. I'll go a few months without buying anything and then spend a few hundred dollars.

Probably isn't the best way to do it but I can't ever picture myself stopping by the mall once a week.

When my clothes evolve and start crawling by themselves, my wife demands that I destroy them.

I might spend $100 every 6 months or so on clothes?

Evolution has been a little slow lately, so my clothes budget has slowed down.

I wear things until they are so warn out they become my "paint/project" clothes for many years to come.

I don't really have a budget. Once a year I get a new pair of sneaks (usually New Balance or whatever is on sale) and usually go get a pair or 2 of pants and a shirt or 2.

Figure $100-200 a year or so.

That's like me. I pretty much only buy clothes when I absolutely need to. I also tend to buy polos made out of the moisture-wicking fabric and wear T-shirts underneath them, so they'll last years if you can avoid snagging them.

Maybe $300 a year. On a yearly basis I usually need a new pair of sneakers, 2 or 3 new pairs of jeans, and new undershirts/socks/boxers. Beyond that maybe a couple new dress shirts/polos. Dress pants/shoes pretty much last forever since I hardly ever wear them.

edit: My wife, on the other hand, spends about $300/month on clothes 🙁 And still complains about how she has nothing to wear.

I don't really budget for clothes. If I start getting low on clothes, I go "I could use a new shirt" and pick one up when I see one I like.

I have no idea what my budget is. I just make sure to have the following:

At least one nice pair of casual pants. Right now it's a pair of black jeans. I bought them for less than $50 a year and a half ago, and wear all the time.

At least one nice pair of casual shoes. The other day I went to a shoe store and they had blue suede shoes on sale for $50. I've never owned a pair but they looked cool, so I picked them up. Decent shoes are made out of leather and usually cost $60-$70.

2 or 3 pairs of socks that match your nice pair of casual pants. This shouldn't be more than $20-$30.

A belt that matches your nice pair of casual shoes. $30. Nice shoes come in three colors, black, brown, and burgandy. Notice that belts come in the same colors. There's a reason for that. Don't be a fool and wear a brown belt with black shoes. Just don't do it, you'll look like an ass.

Two or three nice warm weather shirts. $30-$50 each. Less if you can get them on sale. They can have 2-3 buttons at the top (polo shirt) but they don't have to. They should have no printing on them, they should fit you really well and look clean. They should not be the same color as your pants, but they should match. To match colors just keep earthy colors (brown, green, tan, yellow, etc.) separate from mineral type colors (blues, blacks, grays, reds, etc.). There are some exceptions. Blue and yellow go together just fine. But it's a good rule of thumb to use.

At least one nice sweater. I don't know if you need this in Texas, but you should not be pulling on a hoodie or some kind of performance wear if you're trying to dress nicely. Spend some money, get a really nice wool, or even cashmere sweater. It will be lightweight, it will be warm, and it will look fantastic. Take care of it. It will last you a long time. (And for god's sake make sure it matches your pants) $50-$100.

One really nice wool coat. Again, not sure if you need this in Texas. This is expensive, but definitely worth it. I got my peacoat for $350, but I've had it for 10 years. It keeps me warm in the winter and makes me look like an adult when others are wearing nylonish team apparel or Carhartt or something.

I'd say this is the minimum. I think when you start wearing nice clothes and see how other people respond and how good it feels, you'll add other stuff. Maybe a nice pair of boots, a linen shirt (the black belt of warm-weather classy if done right), a nice pair of leather gloves. The nice thing is that us guys have it a million times easier than women who must constantly keep up with fashion changes and have a million accessories to worry about. Men's fashion stays pretty stable.

I always have at least 4 "good" pairs of jeans and trendy shirts for dinner, etc.
I have at least 10 outfits for work, which are button up dress shirts and dress slacks.

As these things wear out, shrink, or I get sick of them... I get new ones.

I try to keep pants and shirts under $40ea. (TJ Maxx, Marshals, clearance, etc)

Probably around $1000/year for all clothing.

$300???? Ppffttt......that's like one pair of Diesel jeans! 😀

No yearly budgets.
Splurged some 500 dollars of my parents' money this Christmas on some nice pullovers and a new coat. Probably got one white t-shirt last year. Replace jeans when they rip, shoes when they start to come apart or the soles are becoming too worn for them to be comfortable. I didn't buy underpants in the last 5 years or so. Those that I have age very well. And I can't seem to find any in the style I like. Oh, I bought a suit last year, with shoes, shirt and fly-tie - another 600 dollars or so.

The only reason for me to buy clothes these days is either to replace something broken, or to try out a new style, that I like. There might be a few nice shirts in the pipeline for this year, and maybe a new set of summer shoes (i.e. white trainer style shoes, that aren't real trainers, but lighter and more stylish. Dab of color not optional.)

Not much. I buy as many clothes used as I can. I only buy new when I need something right away, and can't wait for it to turn up in used channels, but that's rare.

Very low. I'll get a few long sleeve shirts/hoodies and jeans in the fall. Then a few short sleeve shirts and shorts in the spring. Just enough to rotate out what's completely worn out. I'm not into fashion. T-Shirts, long sleeve T-shirts, and sweatshirts/hoodies is 95% of my attire. Pretty much all of it is bought on sale by my wife.

Thrift shops? I'd do that too but the thrift shops near me are shit and don't keep things sorted well. I don't feel like digging through piles for half a day to find something that fits.

I don't budget and buy whatever I want, but I don't buy a lot. I have enough decent shirts anyway. I suppose I could use another pair of jeans though (Levis ftw). I also have shirts from high school, one from 9th grade I think (I'm 30 now, lulz), that I still wear.

Dont really have a budget. When clothes wear out with holes or rips i go buy something new to replace it. Maybe $400/year id guess. Not really sure, never put much thought into it to be honest.

I also don't have a budget. If I need to buy something I don't have or for replacing something that is no longer viable, I go out and get it. But right now I have pretty much everything I need:

dress shirts
casual shirts
polos
sweaters
slacks
suits
khakis
jeans
dress socks
casual socks
sneakers
dress shoes

The most recent purchases were gym clothes because I stated working out more often and I was running out before the hamper was getting full enough to do a laundry load.

Shoes keep getting me. Had to buy a new pair of $120 Asics to train in after Tough Mudder, only to destroy them again in another Tough Mudder 3 months later 🙁

Yea. I'm lucky to have a good one near me. It's well kept and organized. There's also Goodwill, but they've gotten kind of expensive. Some of their prices are entirely unreasonable, being only slightly cheaper than buying new.
