I have been on Verizon forever.

I want the new iPhone, so I guess I have to switch to AT&T.

I currently use <400 Minutes, but I want to use the iPhone's data services.

Am I looking at around $100 a month for everything?

Edit: AT&T's website doesn't show you which data package you need with the iPhone.

I see the standard $39.99 for 450 minutes.
Looks like $30 for the new iPhone unlimited data plan, with 200 texts and rollover.
$70+ tax/fees = $80 or so?

Its $69.99 for unlimited data, 200 SMS messages and 450 minutes a month (with rollover and 5000 nights and weekends.).

Likely $79.99 with more texts. Not cheap.

I pay $40 + $20 unlimited data + $5 texts package (not unlimited) = $65 per month

I think you need a $30 data package, along with other crap. It's not worth it unless you really really want it. It's going to turn out to be more than $80/month after fees/taxes.

I'm currently paying about $96/month. My current plan is the family plan with my g/f @60 +20 unlimited data + 5*2/text packages for the both of us. After tax it's about 96-97 dollars.

Rather more expensive than the 45 I was paying prior... but the iPhone has been worth it thus far. I've used it for many occassions where its saved me on locating places or researching for things on the go.

so you end up paying back the $200 "savings" at $10 a month for 24 months, right?

I wouldn't say that AT&T charges $30 for 3G Data on all their other 3G phones so the iPhone is right in line with the typical charges there. @ 199 this is a crazy good deal, it's not like a Blackberry would be any less monthly, in fact it might even be more. Doesn't AT&T charge $35 monthly for BB data?

Man, I was all ready to jump to SERO, then they drop the 199 iPhone. Hmm... What would you guys do? Curve on SERO or iPhone on AT&T?

I wouldn't do the Curve because you have to pay fees on top of the SERO plan, but I already got a Q9c w/ SERO. 30 bucks a month vs 65 x 24 months is a no-brainer to me.

I'm at $100 a month for the smallest minute plan, and data package with my Treo.

I'm about to switch to Sprint just so I can get on Sero for reasonable price for a change, even though I SWORE I'd never go back to Sprint.

Exactly. Saving $1200 in service charges over two years is too tempting to pass up.

My current Verizon VX8700 Cost = $100 + 24 x $50 = $1300.

Hmmm... nice extrapolational view of things.

Main thing I'm waiting for is to see if Palm releases a new palm or linux based phone (I won't do windows).

I'm on a family share plan with my father and step mother who live in a different state. I pay $45/mo ($20 data service, $10 for extra line, $5 in estimated minute usage) and we are always under minutes on our 400 minute plan. I believe the total bill is right around $100.

The 3G phones will effectively be $15/mo more because of the $30 data charge and $5/200 text messaging.

$1920 is the total cost of just the Contract with AT&T after Taxes. With Sero 500, which includes more time, unlimited texts, and 7 pm nights/weekends, it is $840 (assuming $35/month).

Assuming you would get a $199 phone from Sprint, that means you are paying a $1,080 premium to have an iphone over the next two years!

So with the new iPhone prices, let me put things into perspective:

$199 iphone. $200 drop right?

Okay, but they tack $10 on per month so you're paying $240 for service more, and that's a $40 differential.

Forget the fact that the iPhones have different service plans, and let's compare with a regular phone. I have a Nokia N82. This is a N95 equivalent, and if I had gotten the N95-3 which would've been cheaper, I would have 3G also. Well, how much is ATT's basic service? $39.99 for 450 minutes. That's what iPhone users get. I wanted unliminted internet so I paid $19.99 for the plan. That's EXACTLY what iPhone users pay. Now, I could've done this with an N95-3 or any other 3G capable phone (unfortnuately the N82-1 only has 2100 band for 3G/UMTS). I don't believe you should HAVE to pay more for 3G capabilities, and this is the case with EVERY OTHER PHONE. With the iPhone 2.0 they think its somehow justifiable to make people pay $70/month. So when I calculate costs, I chop that $10 off and lump that into the phone cost.

With that said I had everything the old iPhone and more, but now the new iPhone shoves 3G down my throat and makes me wonder why I didn't get the N95-3 (I guess Xenon flash was more important than NA 3G frequencies to me). Ugh. Anyways, just imagine yours'ef paying $440 for a phone and $60/month for service. Worth it? Yeah I paid $600 for my N82. Now you get GPS and 3G capabilities, although the camera is still subpar (5MP Carl Zeiss baby), so I would actually recommend the iPhone 2.0 now. My iPhone 1.0 hate is now being erased.

Edit: I hated the iPhone 1.0 so badly but now the 2.0 is so impressive I'm breaking out my iPod touch. In fact I'm GOING to the apple store to buy my case today just so I can look like an iphone user because I've been waiting to get a case for my iPod touch before breaking it out.

For one, AT&T until the iPhone 3G was announced. I think T-Mobile charges 20/month also. SERO is 30 for the whole thing.

AT&T was always $30 for the 3G Data the $20 was for EDGE only, this is nothing new with the iPhone 2.0, it's been the standard.

As of now, data for the iphone is another 20/month and includes 200 texts.

I think the other providers will announce their pricing soon enough...

This may be a stupid question, but who all carries the iPhone?
