How much is too much?

I've got a friend that hangs with me sometimes....she's really nice and we go out and chill about once a week. We've known each other for over a year and about 6 months into our friendship she was in a really bad car accident. She's on a lot of meds to help ease the pain in her neck and back and she has migraines pretty frequently. I didn't know what to get her for Xmas cause she's a good friend and I think she deserves something from me since she's been there when I needed her. So I feel that need to give even though it's not necessary. I just went to a local spa and figured that she could use a spa package...I thought it'd do her some good. The only problem is the cheapest one they have is $50 and it was only for a half hour. If you had 3 packages to choose from, tell me which one you'd get: I've already paid for it at this point, but I'm just curious what you all would do.

Package 1
30 min massage on back and neck.

Package 2
30 min massage(same as pack 1) and 30 min lite facial

Package 3
1 hour full body massage, 1 hour full facial, and pedicure.

the big one. sounds like she needs it and women always like a good papmering.

itll be your good deed for the year

At least package 2. Depends on how much you're willing to spend.
BTW, in my own experience, phsycial injuries or not, you can't go wrong buying a spa gift certificate for a woman. Actually, I think most guys wouldn't complain either if they knew what was good for them.

As a female, any of them would do for me! 🙂

The first one, would be enough if someone were to do that for me...that and maybe being taken out for supper.

Actually, one hour massage may be too much for me....😛

the only thing is: will she feel bad that you gave her a really expensive gift (and will she wonder why?)

You've met the person this is for.... 😛 She's really cool and I've never gotten her a gift before. Like I said, I've already made the purchase...I just want to see what others would do in my place. If it weren't for the car accident, I would have chosen option 1 without batting an eye. 😛

lol, I say number 3 but then I'm a gal who operates on the "More" principal, the better it feels the more I want 😛

Seriously,go with number 2,she'll get more of the full spa experience getting both the massage and facial and it's not a total budget buster

Btw,spa gc's totally rock as gifts 🙂

I hope not because I'm going to probably invite her to a 6 course meal and New Year's celebration this year...I just hope she accepts that because I've already paid $275 for tickets and just broke things off with the gal I was recently dating. I'd rather take a friend that would enjoy it than take someone that I just met. I mean, it would mean more to me to spend time with someone I know than to use such an event to get to know someone...

Funny story 😀

My roomate Spring semester was a morning person. I am not. So in the mornings, I'd get up and he'd already be up and super friendly. He'd want to talk. So to remedy that, I'd put on my headphones and listen to music as soon as I got dressed.

One day, he askes me right as I'm getting up if I knew of any good spa's in town, cause he wanted to get his mom the full pampering treatment for her birthday. I told him no, and to check the yellow pages because frankly, I was still waking up and in no mood to help him find one.

I didn't have the music too loud, so I could hear his first conversation on the phone. It went like this:

"Wait, can you say that again?...Ok, so what does that include?...I'm sorry, what did you say?...Oh, so does that include a sauna or anything?...I'm sorry, what?...Oh ok, thank you"

He then hung up and said something to the effect of not being able to understand her through her chinese accent. I immediatly turned off the music and asked him what place he called.

"Rainbow Health Spa"

"Uhhh....that's not a spa you want to send your mom to"

"Why not"

"That's not really a health spa. Well it is, but the health spa has...the happy ending"

"What do you mean?"

"It's a whorehouse. Don't send your mom there"

"And you know this how?"

"They advertise in the sports section of the newspaper. All the "health spas" advertised there are like that. Don't send your mom to any of those.

At that point I was laughing so hard I didn't mind helping him find a nice salon and day spa to get a gift certificate for his mom. Even though it was ass-early.

Sorry for the hijack. I'd get the $155 treatment personally. She'll love the full body massage.

If you can afford it, go big...the difference is huge, but it'll be worth it. She'll appreciate it regardless, however, so don't be too torn over the decision.

Good luck man.

if i had the money i'd do the big one, but that along with a 6 course meal, yadda yadda, seems kind of over the top for you just being friends.

from a dollar perspective... #2 sounds like the best deal. massage plus a facial? half an hour is a long time, an hour each would just be tooooo long (an hour facial?). plus the gourmet dinner & new years... all that sounds a little much for a friend that "chills with you once a week."

Well....I've already had the reservations for the New Year's thing. I mean, that's for me as much as it is anyone else that wants to hang with me. 🙂 I'm a party guy and I like living the lifestyle when I don't have to be at work or in class... I went to one of these types of things last year....all you can drink party at a Mariott. It was a blast and I had a great time. 😉

I bought her package #3 tonight....I went all out. While package 2 sounded good, it was the difference in getting the pedicure too. I figured she could use the foot treatment too and it'll be the last time I get her anything like this. I would have spent that money on liquor and eating out anyway and it gives me an excuse to cut back on my drinking and going out....I'm trying to diet here. 😛
