I sold a similar Compaq Presario for $570 without any monitor, speakers, and just a standard mouse to a friend of mine. If you include a bunch of software titles and make the deal appear better, you get a better price if you catch a buyer.

Print some flyers, advertise it at the local grocery store, tech schools, etc. Price it a little higher than you want, then let them bargin youdown to your asking price. It makes them feel as if they are getting a deal.

it's worth as much as the next person is willing to pay...

anyway, around $500 is fine. i'd pay less for it since it is used.

I wouldn't pay much for it - but I am SURE there are plenty of people that would pay way too much (which is good :)) :p

You have a nice amount of RAM in there, the HD is good for most users, 34x cdrom is nice, sound is fine (any card will do)... the modem and video is crap, but then again, if you say "56k and 8MB video" it sound ok to most people..

I'd say at least $500-600 maybe even more, depending on who you sucker into buying it :)

those people who buy their computer should do their research before buying. If they don't, they can only blame themselves.

yes people should to research before buying a computer...but the seller also has a moral responsibilty to not sucker some ignorant person.

Maybe the buyer did research but not fully. Computers are technical and there are many people who are techies that don't have a clue.

Suckering people into paying $500+ for an old compaq is sick. Doing this bring you down to the level of used car sales man or Fry's salespeople who will do anything for a buck .

ahem.

im probably selling it to my mother you guys, good god, i know this thing cant be worth 500...350, 400... with monitor? im lookin more along a price range, as opposed to "a decent price..." cause a decent price this aint worth

did i mention i got the athlon 750 system for $650 w/ shipping? thats a good price right ;)

and the graphics, well that crappy graphics card is coming with the athlon 750 system, im swapping it with the card i put in the 300 system, which is a tnt2 based sniper 2 card with 32mb ram on board, which works pretty good for me :)

Hm well i don't have too much of a problem about ppl suckering strangers, but doing it to your own friend! Thats sad:( Strangers is buyer beware, but friends are a different thing all together. That system is really only worth maybe $250 MAX

Zucchini is right. Ive seen new ibm p2 350s go for only $220 without monitor or cdrom. A p2-300 is a really old machine. Consider that for about $200 you could build a 533 celeron which would be much better (Thats without the operating system)

Just remember, any p2 CPU system will work just as good to a average person that just uses the PC for internet access and writing papers, which is what the bulk of PC buyers do anyways. So having a great video card, a 7200rpm HD, or over 64meg of RAM is mostly a waste and a overkill for them. THe lower end componets will work just as good for them.
