I seem to recall that there is no tax in California on grocery food, or something like that.

Obviously, I don't do the grocery shopping. 😉

I would bet (I could be wrong) there's no tax on groceries (food) in any state.

Nope, Louisiana folks have to pay sale tax on food (amounts depending on the types of food). I went out with a few friends and a date to the casinos and I did have to pay tax on the lunch. We also stopped by WalMart and bought a few groceries things such as bags of chips and did have to pay tax. I am pretty sure (not 100&#37😉 the same for Arkansas too.

That's pretty sad they make people pay tax on groceries. Is it a sin tax (junk food) or is it on everything else?

I just spoke with a friend that currently living in Lousiana and yes, have to pay tax on normal grocery stuffs such as meat, bread, veggies, etc.

But on the good side, Lousiana has one of the lowest property tax due to their $75,000 homestead exception and the median price is about $165K or so IIRC.

It varies quite a bit by county and suburb. Also, state varies quite a bit.
I'm in unincorporated lake county, but the closest stores are in Wauconda, IIRC, it's around 7.5% or so, where I work is by the Cook county border, in cook county, the taxes are worse....
