Just curious because I found a bunch of dead engines lately for give away. Not too keen in taking parts off of them but am curious how much they'd be worth if I scrapped them. They are pretty damn heavy so I would expect them to be worth a few bucks.

Any one here know?

Some wont take them unless the oil has been completely removed from the engine. But $25 to $35 is the rate from what Ive seen here and there. Sometimes less because off all the crap you have to strip off them like wires, belts, hoses, etc. Thats eco waste and they have to pay to dispose of it, thus the low price.

But it does pay to shop around for the best price. You might luck out for more $.

Depends on whether its steel or aluminum or iron.

IIRC Iron is about ~$280 a ton, Aluminum ~$1500 a ton and Steel is ~$500 a ton, of course these are prices for processed metals in ready to use forms, raw scrap that needs to be recycled will fetch quite a bit less. Worst case scenario, 400lbs of iron would only net you maybe $30 at recycling rates.

Thanks for the info!

I know the Catalytic Converter has platinum in it, do I just have that recycled separately, or just sell those somewhere? I guess since you brought it up FetusCakeMix, I mine as well ask. :)

If you're just bringing the car to a junk yard, I'd take the catalytic converter out and bring it to a metal recycling yard. Scrap metal recycling yard might give you more for it, since they'll either weigh it, check what's left of the honeycomb on the inside, or just give you a flat rate. If you have a scrap yard in your area, I'd give a quick call over and see what they do for catalytic converters.
