87 octane is $1.65 - $1.69 a gallon and I just got transferred to a job that's a one hour drive each way. Time to re-do the budget!

Here on Maui, it is about $2.00 for regular and about $2.10 for premium.

Generally speaking, our gas prices are always high. The lowest I have seen it go in the four years I have lived here is about $1.70 per gallon for regular, so we are used to paying high prices for gas.

I live in Honolulu. The gas price for regular as of last night is 1.90. This sucks, it takes like 20 bucks to fill up my car from 1/4 tank. =( I hope the prices go down back to what it was a few months ago (1.40). Oh well...

i haven't seen it above 1.99 anywhere for selfserve premium, but the 87 is 1.77 and it seems to be 1.87 and 1.97 for the higher octanes. What happened to the days of cheap gas, like a year ago, gas around here I think was less than 1.20/gallon.

I'm in L.A. and the gas tax is at least .34 cents a gallon, plus CA gas prices seem to be higher than a good part of the country.

late.

Where do you live in NC? I live near Winston Salem and our gas is like 1.45 to 1.50 a gallon.

Greenville, SC, but it's at one of those cheap places that I wouldn't want to try - I pay more like 1.40-1.50.

Regular unleaded is about $1.75 here in the greater Portland, Oregon area. Plus is 175, and Premium is about 1.95.

I love my GoPed :) 80mpg ... 100+ if I strap on a more fuel efficent carb, at the cost of speed...

Hmm, I wonder if it would be cheaper overall to get Regular Unleaded, then buy a bottle of octane booster.. hmm.. probably not ..

The Oil Industry is a fvcking joke. I highly suggest you read about it if you want to be thoroughly discusted.

We should all be burning Ethanol. No question about it. It burns cleaner, and gives more power. Not to mention you can make it out of just about anything.

For those that don't know, I'll give it to you in a nutshell. Back when the ICE(Internal Combustion ENgine) first gained widespread popularity, we DID use alcohol. Gasoline was considered a poor fuel, because of it's low octane rating. Even back in the 30s, we didnt know how long the Oil reserves (in the ground) would last, and we were activly looking for alternative fuel. Alcohol was really the only one. GM was -><- that close to using alcohol as their major fuel of choice.

Then they found tetraethyl lead. They found that when they added it to gasoline, it improved it's anti-knock (octane) rating greatly. Their interest in Alcohol suddenly disappeared.

Now that Leaded gasoline is against the law, guess what we add to gasoline in order to improve it's octane rating? Yep.. 10% alcohol.

Upsetting, to say the least..

Eli, you realize that about half the price of your $1.65 gas is due to government taxation? Don't forget to laugh at that. I've seen it estimated that the federal gas tax could be reduced by half and we'd still have plenty of money to fund the highway system.

Oh, yeah, I realize that.. but that just adds insult to injury ;) We shouldn't be using gasoline in the first place as our primary fuel...

Eli, I wish I lived nearer to where you live... I live near Portland too and all the stations around here (Lake Oswego/Tualatin/Tigard, and no, I'm not rich ;b) are at least $1.75/gallon for reg. unleaded. Of course, here in OR it is not self-serve and oil companies take advantage of that to screw us over...
