How much is DVD technology going to improve in the next year?

Well I'm gonna be going to college next year (fall 2002), and I'm gonna be building a new computer. I saw a great deal for a pioneer 16x dvd, and I was wondering, is dvd technology gonna change in a year? Is it worth it to buy this now, or wait til next year to get the newest dvd drive?

Probably not at all. It has enough momentum and support behind the standard by now that there wont be any significant change.

The price for the 16X will go down as faster ones come out, but the price for the newest drives is probably going to remain about where it is now. IMHO you should buy now and enjoy the DVD for a year. If something tremendously different comes out later yo can think about it then. The drive is only about $75 right now anyway, so it shouldn't hurt too bad.

Well I have a dvd for the tv, and I'm thinking about this cuz it's really cheap (50)... but if next year there are gonna be better drives, what's better now or later?

If you are going to live in the dorms without a TV consider getting a DVD drive and TV tuner so you can watch TV and movies.

DVD movies still play at 1X

CDROM games are fine with just about anything 12x+

DVD games, haha

just get it now

Honestly DVD has been around a while and I have not seen to many DVD applications. I think I saw Baldurs Gate on DVD (could be wrong)

It may be a while I say
