1. Waggy is trolling.
2. Everyone is falling for waggy's trolling.
3. BB deserves to be sued.
4. This lady demands are not entirely unreasonable (not the monetary demand, but the demands she is requesting of BB for her to withdraw her lawsuit).

yeah im trolling because i think a 54million doller lawsuit (no matter if its for media attention) over a $2k (possible) computer is silly and retarded. yeah.

you say im trolling yet even say the mopnetary demand is unreasonable. pfft.

for the love of god, can you read the article already and shut the hell up?

I don't see anything wrong with what shes doing, minus the representing herself part. I also agree loss of information is not BBs fault, but identity theft would be. I think most people disapprove of the $54 million, but she picked that in reference to the pants lawsuit, and clearly doesn't anticipate getting it. I doubt she'll fight tooth and nail for $54 million either. Either way BB knows it messed up, if all she really deserves is the cost of the laptop and programs, why did bestbuy offer her $2500 plus the $900 gift card, PLUS a refund?

waggy, your response would make sense had BB called her up 3 days after she sent the laptop in for repair and said "Hey sorry, we lost it, here is 2k, we feel really bad about this". But that obviously isn't what occurred. If you don't know what occurred you need to re-read the article a 3rd time.

again it does not matter. they lost her laptop. she has full right and duty to sue and get the cost of the laptop, software and monitering back.

The 54 million is wher ei think she is going overboard. sure its for media attention but its still wrong.

How about, wrong but necessary? Do you think BB would have acted if she had sued only for 5K and without media attention? Not a flame, just want your thoughts.

EDIT: Somewhat related to the post, but more like a general afterthought. Although I agree that today most people are out to make a quick buck, suing for astronomical amounts, when used correctly huge monetary awards and fines are theoretically supposed to deter similar and repeat behavior. I don't have a solution, but a $2000 payment isn't going to stop BB from doing this again.

sure. they should pay for her a new computer. thats it.

the 54 million is absurd and silly.
it is absurd, but what is a lost laptop with your personal information (making you vulnerable to ID theft) worth to you?

it does nto matter what i think its worth. she deserves the cost of the computer and whatever programs she paid for. thats it.

sueing for 54 million just makes her look like the idiot that sued for $64 million for a missing pair of pants.

if she sued for the cost of a computer, programs, ID theft monitering etc then fine.

not to mention i think its silly letting anything that has the stuff she claims out of her site. When i was working i was amazed at the information on peoples computers they would give to people.

You obviously have a reading comprehension problem. She specifically stated that she used the amount used in the "Pants Lawsuit" to attract attention. She says she doesn't expect to win the case and get millions. She just wanted to bring attention to Best Buy's horrible business practices. Quit posting.

until you got mod powers telling me to quit posting has not power.

if you have a problem with me giving my opionion then to fucking bad.

we all think you're this closed from being pwned (if not already). Just cut your losses and walk away man.

Sure it's unreasonable, I don't think anybody would disagree with that. But who cares if its unreasonable, its about trying to screw BB in the media.

it's sad that you dont understand that she HAD to sue BB big to shake them up into action. She will not win anywhere near that amount! but the initial suit amount had to be big so that BB finally took notice

they did offer her the cost of the computer and $500 BEFORE the lawsuit. she demanded $2200 wich they ignored.

sure they uped it after the lawsuit (wich she will wina pretty good amount) would they have offered more if nto for it? maybe not. BUT as i said i think a 54million doller lawsuit is unreasonable.

not sure what can be done bout them loseing/stealing stuff. personally i would NEVER give a computer with personal information to anyone. thats just asking for trouble.

you keep saying this but you are just showing that you are missing the entire point of the damn lawsuit. What this lady is doing is VERY CLEVER and it's obviously working because of all the media attention and internet trolling it's getting.

Why is a $54 million lawsuit, when it's not serious, not expected to win, and only intended to incite a company to moving towards a proper resolution, unreasonable?

even before the lawsuit they (finally) offered her the cost of the laptop and $500 gc.

while i do think they should also pay for any software (and LEGAL songs she paid for on the laptop) thats it.

i find a 54 million lawsuit for something like this way over th etop.

Yeah I agree with that.

as for your response, my perspective is rooted in the Edit of my last post. I also agree if she actually got $54 million that would be absurd and perhaps thats the problem, she shouldn't even ask for it cause she MIGHT get it. But I dont know, this kind of thing happens all too often and consumer rights rarely appear to be protected. It would be nice if BB could be fined and the money would somehow be used for some public good or returned to other wronged customers, but absent any sort of law, I guess its up to the individual consumer, only problem there is the money is redistributed to only ONE customer.

EDIT: added edit from last post

Of course the laptop is not worth $54M. The woman even says that in the article, and she clearly says that she doesn't expect that much. It was all done to get BestBuy's and media attention. It has done exactly that, so it was a brilliant move on the woman's part, especially picking the exact amount as the dry cleaners suit.

You argument that she should get compensated just for the cost of the laptop is bogus. There needs to be a cost for all the time the laptop was missing, and some penalty for deceptive practices on BestBuy's part. Her first demand was reasonable and BestBuy should have taken her up on that. Instead they will pay more, as they should.

OK, I admit I took the bait and am joining the "Waggy is wrong" crowd on this one...

BTW, the loss of information is NOT their responsibility (in terms of like photos and stuff. Obviously if her craptop was stolen from there and identity theft, it would be their fault). People seem to forget that they can lose anything on a computer at all times. This stuff needs to be backed up.

Telling her that the sensitive information was lost (i.e. we lost your laptop, is there anything sensitive on it?) is a law down there. Says so in the article.

Same here. He fucked up originally and is so far entrenched in the position he has no choice but to continue to troll.

No doubt BB screwed up. All it should have taken was a reasonable offer.

BB's liability should be IMO

Cost of replacement laptop
Cost of identity guard protection

Its too bad she lost music and movies and such but she should have backed them up.

all you people who say 54 mill is too much, read the GD article before you comment.

she deliberately set the price that high (without a lawyer mind you) to get the media's attention since the dry cleaning suit was for the exact same amount. she does not expect to win, but only want BB's name to be smeared a bit in the media, deservedly so.
