Good for her.

As a person who's been screwed by Best Buy, I hope she wins. Normally I'm against absurd sums being thrown around in lawsuits, but Best Buy is a huge repeat offender.

sure. they should pay for her a new computer. thats it.

the 54 million is absurd and silly.
it is absurd, but what is a lost laptop with your personal information (making you vulnerable to ID theft) worth to you?

it does nto matter what i think its worth. she deserves the cost of the computer and whatever programs she paid for. thats it.

sueing for 54 million just makes her look like the idiot that sued for $64 million for a missing pair of pants.

if she sued for the cost of a computer, programs, ID theft monitering etc then fine.

not to mention i think its silly letting anything that has the stuff she claims out of her site. When i was working i was amazed at the information on peoples computers they would give to people.

You obviously have a reading comprehension problem. She specifically stated that she used the amount used in the "Pants Lawsuit" to attract attention. She says she doesn't expect to win the case and get millions. She just wanted to bring attention to Best Buy's horrible business practices. Quit posting.

"In November, she filed her $54 million lawsuit against Best Buy -- by herself, without legal representation."

EDIT- Hmmm I'm late to the party. This has been cleared up :Q

nice you went back and read the article. 😉

also, too bad you won't answer my question.

as i said it does not matter what i THINK ITS WORTH. she deserves the cost of the computer, programs and perhaps monitering. though to be honest it hink she has some blame. nobody should ever trust anyone with such information.

it matters b/c i asked you the question. you want to dodge it. fine.

do you have a brain tumor or something? usually you are pretty smart but lately you been off. not being an ass I'm kinda worried. you haven't seemed yourself lately.

but i will try to explain it to you. the reason it does not matter what I (or anyone else) think its worth is because it does not matter. She is not entitled to what she THINKS its worth. she deserves the value of the computer, software etc. perhaps monitoring for ID theft.
nice uncalled for insults. 😕

i wanted you to put yourself in her shoes, and asked what the laptop would be worth to you monetarily. it's not a dumb question, and there is no need for you to be defensive.

normally i'm against lawsuits of this style, but considering the entire sequence of events, and the fact that BB was given several opportunities to correct the situation, and only made it worse by lying about it. LOL and finally to admit they had lost her laptop, to offer her less then purchase price, along with completely disregarding obligations involving privacy requirements..................i hope this does go to court. A jury will have a field day with it.

after reading the response from the store manager, it's the classic "straw that broke the camel's back". we were heading up there to shop for a new stove, planning on spending $1300 - 1800 depending on what we finally settled on; now i'll change stores rather then support a corporate mentality like that. Saving a few bucks ain't worth it.

i hope she wins. no way will she see $54M, probably awarded 1/2 ($27M), reduced on appeal ($10M), split with the lawyer ($6M?), after taxes she's left with $4M at most. still, not a bad check. good luck to her.

Her data is worth $0, if it was worth any more than that it would be backed up. "Identity theft" could have happened anywhere, the laptop could have been stolen from her while riding a bus. Hell, theft of data could have occurred while it was in for repair and given back to her in working condition without her ever knowing. As far as I'm concerned, the $54 million is for Best Buy's complete disregard for the client and I'm with her in this regard. You should not have to harass a company that is supposed to be providing you a service. I don't have to call my car dealership every 3 days for 2 months until they finally give me my car back.

Only they didn't even give it back to her.

certain differences of opinions can be openly aired, but after seeing some of the comments in this thread, people should be settling personality issues in private. sets bad example.

lol XxPrOdiGyxX i have seen it worse, that's true. but i've always liked these forums because of the diversity of it's topics, and the knowledge base of the members. Certain topics will always be flame wars, and even then it gets to a point of being way past rude. then it's not fun or constructive.

you just miss it because its not directed at you!

hmm a vampire-werwolf hybrid eh? sounds like something my wife has!

That is nuts. I actually think for a 1200 laptop the demand of $2100 in cash is very reasonable given how much they screwed her around. $54m is silly, though.

BTW, the loss of information is NOT their responsibility (in terms of like photos and stuff. Obviously if her craptop was stolen from there and identity theft, it would be their fault). People seem to forget that they can lose anything on a computer at all times. This stuff needs to be backed up.

Here's my take on this thread.

1. Waggy is trolling.
2. Everyone is falling for waggy's trolling.
3. BB deserves to be sued.
4. This lady demands are not entirely unreasonable (not the monetary demand, but the demands she is requesting of BB for her to withdraw her lawsuit).

yeah im trolling because i think a 54million doller lawsuit (no matter if its for media attention) over a $2k (possible) computer is silly and retarded. yeah.

you say im trolling yet even say the mopnetary demand is unreasonable. pfft.

waggy, your response would make sense had BB called her up 3 days after she sent the laptop in for repair and said "Hey sorry, we lost it, here is 2k, we feel really bad about this". But that obviously isn't what occurred. If you don't know what occurred you need to re-read the article a 3rd time.
