Gang,
I won this package at a competition. The software came in a blue box, got 3 books, and couple of CD Roms.

I'm thinking of selling it. Never been used.

How much can I get for it??

Thanks.

You bastard, I want that price, gimme gimme gimme, I´ll give you $50 for it, I´ll pay shipping.

3dstudio max is the best 3d modeling package there is, that is it used to be, now we have maya which costs waaaaay more than 3dsmax. Still these two are the best 3d apps for the PC.

it's a professional level 3d modeller/animator, used for making comp integrated movies and high detail rendered images. Apparently it's one of the best out there, i have a copy but never learned how to use it, i guess i will soon, im gonna model some ogl stuff 🙂

yeah, autocad is around there... it's not a lot for what it can do... speaking for 3d studio max and autocad...

there are programs that retail in the $10k range.

of course the professional video cards are at these ranges too =)

wow!

$3500 is good.

Now, where would be a good place to sell this thing??

At that price, it won't be easy to find a buyer.

i dunno, if retail copies are in the 10k region, I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard to pick up a buyer. That with a saving of something like $6500, nothing to laugh at....

3dstudio max isn't something you can just load up and jump into though...I've seen a guy at work using it and its an ugly thing to have to look at if you don't know what you're doing - very intimidating 🙂

I know how to use it, was playing with it for 3 years or so, then I lost interest.

You might try to sell it on egay

Anyone ever see the "Beast Wars" cartoon? Or "Reboot"? Both modeled in 3D studio max. When I was considering computer art as a college major, I emailed the show's creators and asked what they used. Surprisingly, the head animator emailed me back right away, saying thats what they used. Kind of a nifty program. We had it at work once (R2 I think) and I played around with it, and made a short movie with a teapot (one of the pregenerated objects) and a coffee cup. The teapot rose up, and tipped towards the cup as the camera panned around. Very cool, but unfortunatly I lost in when my drive went south 🙁

3DSM retails for around $3K, with educational versions going in the $1K range.

With a "used" copy I wouldn't expect to get even $1K for it, and e-bay more then likely will shut you down if you put it up(happens all the time with 3DSM, Lightwave and many Maya versions).

I wouldn't be surprised if you could get $600-$800, possibly even more though that is what I would expect you to pull in for the most current version(which one do you have?).

It isn't a "simple" program, but nothing with 3D is. After you learn it it is an exceptional piece of software(though it takes time, I haven't spent too much time with it myself, but it is very nice from what I have seen).

What's the difference between the retail and educational version??

It's the latest version, and I'm thinking to get at least $1,000 for it, since it's never been used.

oh, and what makes e-bay shut down auctions for this software?

br0wn: yes, I got the whole package.
