1500GB per month allowable traffic for a particular web host that I use.

Somebody put that in perspective for me. What would it take to use that kind of bandwidth. I sure never will.

What kind of sites use more than that?

I wonder how these web hosts can offer so much bandwidth (for not a lot of money)...

Overselling and a very detailed TOS. Many will limit you based on CPU usage, you won't ever get anywhere close to that.

Pushing 1500GB is quite a bit of processing and so most machines won't be able to push that much anyway. Unless you're just transferring large files, at that point most sites would definitely need multiple servers or some kind of load balancing.

And google definitely has to use more than a terrabyte every day!
Their trackers use quite a bit too so keep that in mind.

Thats it?

I'd imagine they use many many times said amount.

Probably a terabyte every few minutes is more likely their bandwidth usage.

I run ovechkinfans.com which is purely videos (5-10MB each) and got a couple uploaded per day. In a month, about 400GB was used. That was about 12k vid downloads per month along with some streaming vids (showcase stuff) and archived zips of them.
