Can't say for sure, since (thank goodness!!) it's been a dozen or more years since I lived there, but when I was making $12 an hour, 40 hour week, paid weekly, I grossed $480 a week, and netted ~$350. Of course, I was paying federal & state income tax, FICA (social security), unenployment, medical and life insurance, etc, etc, ad nauseum.....
I think Cali income tax was ~6% of gross, if I remember right, or slightly less than half of what I was paying in federal income tax. Really high, for the really bad government services they offer, imho. Especially when you figure in the really gross amount of taxes the state brings in with gasoline, cigarette and liquor taxes, plus the lotto and lottery. I've never seen a state that squanders their money worse than Cali, and I was glad to leave there, if you hadn't already noticed! :disgust:
